Additional Information About the Role Brand New Multidisciplinary ICU BSN required (4) 10 hour Evening / Night shifts Flex time, mostly after 3pm NO Weekends NO Call Critical Care experience required Leadership experience preferred Benefits eligible first day of month after start 401K with match/Pension Tuition Assistance Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Assistant Nurse Manager to help lead our new Multidisciplinary ICU at Barnes Jewish Hospital. The ANM is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager in daily operations, clinical oversight, staff development, and ensuring high standards of patient care. The ANM will serve as a mentor, resource and clinical leader, helping to foster a positive and collaborative work environment. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, organizational and leadership skills. Overview Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes‑Jewish Hospital’s staff is composed of full‑time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes‑Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Role Purpose Coordinates patient care, personnel management, maintenance of equipment, equipment purchased, and statistical accumulation. Responsibilities Manages individuals including but not limited to hires, training, assignment of work tasks, performance evaluation, and professional development planning to ensure that the group’s productivity supports overall departmental goals as established by leadership. May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and has direct responsibility for adhering to those goals, responding to business changes that may impact budget attainment. Provides and oversees patient care according to planned interventions with regard to clinical age and developmental needs, documenting as required by policy. Creates and ensures implementation of a collaborative plan of care based on assessment, diagnosis, and medical treatment. Supports review of staff hours worked vs scheduled hours, determines disposition if variation exists, performs and approves daily payroll updates, reconciles time cards, tracks bonuses and coding approvals, prepares and executes staff communications, huddle agendas, and meetings, determines staffing needs, makes nursing assignments as well as assigns overtime, recommends effective annual increases, interviews staff for open positions, conducts performance reviews, drafts and issues corrective actions/coaching, follows up on disciplinary actions for compliance. Responsible for staff productivity and the overall operational goals of the department as established by leadership, conducts performance evaluations, and makes recommendations for improvement as needed. BJC has determined this is a safety‑sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
