We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join a construction-focused organization in Johnson City, New York on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This position combines day-to-day accounting support with contract administration for public and prevailing-wage projects, making it ideal for someone who can manage financial records while keeping project documentation and compliance activities on track. The role works closely with internal teams, external partners, and agency contacts to support accurate billing, reporting, and month-end financial processes.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee contract administration tasks for public construction work, including prequalification submissions, required compliance reporting, and coordination with state-related documentation needs.
• Set up new jobs in QuickBooks, prepare customer billings, and monitor invoicing activity to help maintain timely and accurate project accounting records.
• Manage bonding and insurance paperwork by working with carriers, agencies, and project stakeholders to ensure required coverage and documentation are in place.
• Follow up on outstanding receivables and communicate with contractors or clients to support consistent cash collection and account resolution.
• Record month-end journal entries and maintain organized financial data to support accurate close processes.
• Reconcile general ledger activity, bank records, and job cost details to identify discrepancies and keep accounts current.
• Maintain balance sheet accounts and assist with account analysis to support reliable internal financial reporting.
• Provide documentation and accounting support for annual audit activities and insurance review processes.
• Partner with estimating, payroll, leadership, and external contacts to align project records, wage-related requirements, and financial information.• Experience in bookkeeping or accounting support, preferably in construction or a project-based business environment.
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks for job setup, invoicing, and general accounting activities.
• Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Understanding of prevailing wage requirements and related documentation for public projects.
• Ability to prepare journal entries and support month-end close responsibilities with a high level of accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage compliance deadlines, contract records, and financial details at the same time.
• Effective communication skills for working with internal teams, contractors, agencies, and external partners.
