About Cal Poly Pomona Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences. With a variety of degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and professional disciplines, the university is well known for its learn- by-doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model. The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. We acknowledge that Cal Poly Pomona resides on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people who are the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar. The university’s nearly 30,000 students are taught and mentored by the campus’s more than 1,400 faculty as part of 54 baccalaureate and 29 master’s degree programs, 11 credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate in educational leadership. About the College of Education and Integrative Studies The College of Education and Integrative Studies is a learning community focused on meeting the present and future needs of students in its communities. The college educates students to become highly qualified and significant leaders in society. It is committed to the principles of diversity, ethics and social justice, and life-long learning. Central to the college’s mission is innovation and integrative thinking, reflective practice, collaborative action, and learning by doing. The college’s four departments include two undergraduate degrees and academic programs—Liberal Studies and Early Childhood Studies—and two graduate departments—Education and Educational Leadership. There are 1,376 students enrolled and 41 faculty in the college. About the Department of Education The Education Department’s mission is to empower transformative educators who advocate for justice and equity for all learners. We value equity; racial and social justice; academic excellence; student success; experiential learning; inclusiveness; and social and environmental responsibility. The department offers credential programs in Education Specialist, Multiple Subject, and Single Subject; and offers added authorizations in Bilingual Education (Spanish, Mandarin, and Tagalog), Adapted Physical Education, and Agricultural Specialist. In addition, the department offers a Master of Arts in Education with options in Education Specialist and Curriculum and Instruction. The Position The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses in various instructional modes—in-person, synchronous, asynchronous. University Supervision in K-12 schools, use of GoReact, use of Canvas. All temporary faculty with entitlements are subject to Policy 1336 reviews. Required Qualifications M.A. required; 3-5 years as a credentialed teacher in public schools required (or may include other comparable K-12 teaching experiences), Administrative Service Credential and content area expertise. Related background desired in specific coursework area, i.e.: teacher education methodology or foundations, bilingual education (Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin), literacy and language, curriculum & instruction, Education Specialist, Teacher Performance Assessment. Supervisors must be experts in the instructional area of the candidate being supervised and must have: (a) current knowledge of the content; b) knowledge of the current context of public schooling including the California adopted P-12 content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems; c) knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation; and d) demonstration of effective professional practices in teaching and learning, scholarship, and service. Desired Qualifications A EdD or Ph.D. in Education or related discipline Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching. Multilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Mandarin Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Initial appointments are for one semester only. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range. Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month.
