Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active state nursing license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Level 1 trauma experience - Previous travel experience - Experience working on a dedicated neuro unit - Heparin drip experience Description: The unit consists of 54 beds, including semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neurological conditions. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including a heparin titrated drip based on PTT levels. There is a charge nurse available 24/7 who does not typically take an assignment unless staffing ratios require it. A house supervisor is also present 24/7. Patient care techs are available, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:10-12 at night. Nurses may occasionally troubleshoot respiratory equipment but are primarily involved with stable patients. Telemetry monitoring is managed in-house, so nurses do not need to interpret strips. The scheduling consists of 12-hour shifts with weekend requirements of every other weekend. Holidays are also required every other cycle. There are no call or standby requirements for this position. Nurses may float to other units as needed, but only perform skills they are competent in. Scrub color is not mandated, however, tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are allowed. Orientation includes 2 days dedicated to learning unit-specific protocols and computer systems, followed by hands-on patient care with a preceptor.
