Department of Transportation Salary: $22.66 - $31.40 (per hour) Office/Bureau: Maintenance and Operations (Highway Operations) Location: Turner, ME Opening Date: July 20, 2026 Closing Date: August 3, 2026 Job Description: This is a Transportation Crew Leader Position out of the Turner paint/ Maintenance location. The position will serve on a Turner based Striping/Stencil Crew in summer, leading crew members in painted pavement marking duties, responsible for overseeing and ensuring the accomplishment of assigned duties and tasks as directed by the TCS and the winter responsibilities of this position will be based in Turner maintenance for Region 3, transportation worker duties and could include snow-fighter duties. Supervises and directs the accomplishment of work activities; trains and coaches assigned crew members; ensures projects are completed within specifications and time frames and in accordance with safety and environmental policies, rules, and regulations; monitors use and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and tools; inspects materials; meets with citizens, utility officials and others to resolve issues within a work area; prepares and submits work records and time sheets; communicates daily with the TCS and provides information on personnel issues for employee performance evaluations; and, provides a backup for all TCS responsibilities in the event of TCS absence. To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience: Two-year combination of experience, or education in highway/bridge construction, fleet equipment repair, or transportation related maintenance including at least one year of lead worker experience. Must possess the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities noted above with a high school diploma or equivalent. Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certifications. Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: Valid Class A motor vehicle license as issued by the State of Maine and completion of the 30 hour OSHA Safety course in construction (20 CFR Part 1926). Under federal law, only U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, or H-2A, H-2B, or E-2 visa holders will be eligible for new or renewed CDLs.
