SAFE Family Law Staff Attorney

We are looking for a Survivor and Family Empowerment (SAFE – Family Law) Staff Attorney to join our team in Los Angeles/Orange County. Position Overview The SAFE Project focuses on assisting domestic violence, elder abuse, and civil harassment survivors who are indigent, have limited English proficiency, and immigrants with their family law matters. The staff attorney provides legal counseling and representation under the direction of the Program Director. Qualifications Juris Doctorate and active California State Bar membership in good standing. Commitment to public‑interest work, civil rights, and community empowerment. Minimum 2 years of experience representing low‑income clients. Minimum 2 years of experience in family law. Experience working in nonprofit organizations. Language proficiency in an Asian language. Familiarity with AAPI communities and culturally informed practices. Responsibilities Represent domestic violence, elder abuse, and civil harassment survivors in family law matters (restraining orders, dissolution of marriage, parentage, child custody, child support). Provide legal counseling on remedies and relief, prepare applications and court filings. Conduct legal research, draft briefs, memoranda, pleadings. Prepare clients for hearings and represent them at hearings. Coordinate client services with other attorneys, units, volunteers, and community partners. Recruit, train and mentor pro‑bono attorneys, law students, volunteers; coordinate education and outreach presentations at community forums. Develop training manuals and client brochures. Conduct community legal clinics. Assist with grant reporting and administrative duties, including intake data entry and filing closed intakes.
