The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.Performs custodial duties such as cleaning windows and bathrooms, vacuuming and cleaning carpets, dusting, emptying trash, etc.Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools, and materials.Changes light bulbs, replaces tiles, and other light maintenance work.Operates a variety of mowers and other landscape maintenance equipment.Assists in planting, cultivating, and watering flowers, plants, shrubs, trees, annuals, and turf areas.Assists in cutting, pruning, and trimming trees, shrubs, and hedges.Rakes leaves and removes fallen limbs and trash.Edges and mulch bed areas.Weeds flowerbeds.Mows and trims grass.Edges curbs and walkways.Performs routine maintenance on tractors, mowers, and power and hand tools.Assists in the application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.Operates truck, tractor, and loaders in grounds preparation and maintenance work.Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; investigate and respond to complaints from the public; resolve issues in the area of assignment.Performs other duties as directed.QualificationsEducation and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one (1) year of experience performing related ground maintenance work. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license by the date of hire. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license by the date of hire.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:Methods and techniques of general landscape construction, maintenance, and repair related to the area of work assigned.Equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned.Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.Ability to:Perform a variety of semiskilled maintenance, construction, and repair work in the area of work assigned.Operate a variety of vehicular, light equipment, and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.Perform heavy manual labor.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Perform basic calculations.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Follow all safety rules and regulations of the department to which they are assigned.Utilize standard hand tools, including hammers, wrenches, rakes, shovels, and screwdrivers.Operate standard grounds maintenance machinery and equipment, including mowers, edgers, weed eaters, and blowers.Utilize small power equipment, including chain saws.Operate trucks, tractors, and loaders.Supervision Received/Exercised:Receives administrative direction from the Public Works Director or their Designee.No supervisory responsibilities.Physical/Mental DemandsTasks involve moderate to heavy physical effort, including heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment or supplies of heavy weight, climbing stairs or ladders, and remaining in positions requiring prolonged standing, walking, or sitting. Tasks require physical agility, in which some combination of the following is typically required: bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and stooping. Tasks may involve extended periods working in outdoor conditions with exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions, e.g., solar radiation, heat, dust, dirt, humidity, fumes, gases, smoke, acute vibrations, electrical hazards, and confined or elevated workspaces. These tasks include making observations, communicating, reading and writing, using computers/tablets and operating equipment, making decisions, using judgment, estimating, calculating, and demonstrating intellectual capabilities and close collaboration with others.Working ConditionsPrimarily operates in an outdoor environment with exposure to environmental risks, occasionally transitioning to indoor settings.
