Project Accountant | 2 days WFH

We’re partnering with a $200M general contractor in downtown Chicago to hire a Project Accountant who will work closely with the Controller and project management team across a varied portfolio of construction projects.

What you’ll be doing

• Manage project accounting across multiple construction projects, partnering closely with Project Managers and the Controller.
• Prepare and review monthly owner billings, supporting documentation and project financial reports.
• Track project budgets, commitments, change orders and costs to help maintain accurate financial records.
• Work with project teams on forecasting, cost-to-complete reviews and work-in-progress reporting.
• Review subcontractor payment applications, invoices and lien waivers, helping keep payments accurate and timely.
• Support month-end close, reconciliations and project closeout.
• Identify discrepancies early, resolve issues with the relevant teams and help improve accounting processes as the business grows.

What you’ll bring

• Experience in project accounting within construction, ideally with a general contractor.
• A solid understanding of job costing, progress billing, subcontractor payments and project financial reporting.
• Strong Excel skills and experience using construction accounting software.
• The confidence to work directly with Project Managers, ask questions and explain financial information clearly.
• Strong attention to detail, ownership of your work and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline is preferred.
