Senior Director, Discovery Sciences & Technologies

Gilead

This role leads discovery science and technology initiatives supporting drug development across multiple therapeutic areas and modalities. The Senior Director will oversee assay development and screening strategies while directing cross-functional teams in biochemistry, structural biology, and computational sciences to advance candidates toward clinical development.

Responsibilities

Lead high-performing team developing biochemical, biophysical, and cellular pharmacology assays
Establish assay and screening strategies for target discovery and lead optimization
Drive adoption of next-generation lead-generation technologies and screening methodologies
Provide scientific direction and data interpretation at project governance forums
Mentor and develop scientific leaders while fostering innovation and collaboration

Requirements

PhD in biochemistry, enzymology, biophysics, or related discipline
15+ years drug discovery experience in industrial research environment
Deep expertise in protein-ligand interactions and biophysical technologies
Proven success developing biochemical and cellular assays for target validation
Track record advancing programs from high-throughput screening to development candidate
Experience leading and mentoring senior-level scientists in matrixed organizations
Strong written and verbal communication skills for scientific and non-scientific audiences
