Summary An Advanced Practice Provider functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities Clinical – Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets diagnostic tests/results, develops differential diagnoses, implements treatment plans including prescribing/ordering of evidence‑based pharmacological agents, and schedules appropriate follow‑up management. Integrates hospital initiatives to improve patient care, conducts preventive health screening, maintains comprehensive yet concise records, stays updated on disease and specialty literature, and ensures correct diagnoses through synthesis of clinical data. Adjusts plan of care as needs change, prioritizes work and assists staff for efficient client flow, maintains productivity standards, and leads projects to improve processes. Performs medical procedures per institutional guidelines. Education – Professionally educates clients and families on medical conditions, treatment, and follow‑up. Collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient/family centered care. Develops educational materials, and provides instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students. Actively identifies and meets self‑learning needs, attending education programs as required. Leadership – Provides instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students through precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, and staff meetings. Participates in and leads community/network outreach programs, demonstrates system knowledge, supports changes to improve health care delivery, and leads or participates in systems improvements. Professional – Interacts with patients and families respectfully, courteously, and timely using appropriate communication. Works collaboratively with coworkers and staff, resolves problems quickly, accepts responsibility for outcomes, and shares overall workload with team members. Quality/Research – Engages in daily continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing improvement processes. Consults with management on problem solving, decision making, and evaluating clinical/system issues. Leads interdisciplinary teams for integrated patient care, revises protocols or guidelines to reflect evidence‑based changes, influences policy‑making bodies, and develops new clinical programs or services. Education Requirements Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department. DEA registration. Professional Experience Requirements No prior experience required. Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills. Effective interaction to ensure successful patient care. Accurate medical record documentation for billing.
