New Construction Project Manager

Derecktor is seeking a Project Manager to plan, coordinate, and oversee marine repair, refit, and new-construction projects from initial planning through completion and delivery. This position coordinates shipyard resources and works closely with clients, internal departments, subcontractors, and vendors to complete projects safely, efficiently, on schedule, within scope and budget, and with minimal disruption to other shipyard operations. Reports to: Director of Project Management Responsibilities and Duties: These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following: Manage assigned refit, and new-construction projects from initial planning through construction, commissioning, delivery, and project closeout. Assist in defining project scope, objectives, budgets, schedules, milestones, technical requirements, and deliverables with relevant stakeholders. Review vessel plans, specifications, contracts, and change orders to ensure project requirements are clearly understood and communicated. Develop and maintain detailed project plans and schedules to monitor progress and share updates with clients and other stakeholders. Coordinate internal resources, third parties, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. Work closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Planning, and other departments to coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and project priorities. Appropriate resources are available and properly allocated based on project requirements, employee skill sets, and experience levels. Monitor project performance, schedules, budgets, short- and long-term goals, and production progress using appropriate tools and techniques. Identify potential delays, cost overruns, technical challenges, and other project risks, and develop contingency or corrective action plans. Proactively manage changes to project scope, schedules, specifications, and costs using appropriate review and verification methods. Track design decisions, technical questions, approvals, change orders, and client requests throughout the project. Coordinate the timely procurement and delivery of long-lead materials, owner-furnished equipment, and other items required to support the project schedule. Manage relationships and maintain effective communication with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments. Report project progress, production updates, schedule changes, budget concerns, and significant risks to management, escalating issues as needed. Review project billing, invoices, expenditures, and financial information for accuracy and alignment with the approved budget. Ensure work complies with approved drawings, specifications, contractual requirements, quality standards, and applicable marine regulations. Participate in inspections, testing, commissioning, sea trials, punch-list completion, final vessel delivery, and project closeout. Support warranty coordination and the timely resolution of outstanding issues following vessel delivery. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including schedules, budgets, meeting notes, approvals, change documentation, and closeout records. Develop spreadsheets, diagrams, reports, and process maps to document project requirements and support planning and decision-making. Ensure adherence to all applicable health and safety standards and promptly report or address any concerns. Continually develop and demonstrate effective leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Perform other related duties as assigned. Ability to assist on general marine service projects if needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Process Improvement Planning and scheduling Performance Management Extensive understanding of USCG and Marine Classification Society rules Material and Inventory Control and procurement In-depth understanding of construction procedures and materials management Familiarity with quality assurance processes Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards Familiarity with construction/project management software Excellent organizational and time-management skills A team player with leadership abilities Excellent client-facing and internal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Financial Management experience including basic accounting Developing and Tracking Budgets Negotiate and manage statement of work and contracts with external vendors Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of five (5) years relevant trade experience within the marine industry OR High School diploma with a minimum of ten (10) years relevant trade experience within the marine industry. Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture degree a plus Applicant may be subject to environmental conditions such as cold, heat, exposure to noise, hazards, and confined spaces/close quarters. Applicant must be able to access all areas of the shipyard and company property including docks in all types of weather conditions. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, see with close vision, and access confined spaces. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must have the ability to move easily between buildings, ascend/descend ladders and work outdoors in shipyards/marinas in all kinds of weather.
