Associate Design Engineer

Role Overview Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division has an opening for an Associate Engineer on the Fuel Systems solenoid team. In this role located in Mossville IL, you would join a team of engineers developing and supporting electromagnetic solenoids for Caterpillar fuel injectors and pumps. The position works at the intersection between electrical and mechanical engineering and offers a breadth of technical opportunities: supplier collaboration, technical problem‑solving, detailed design, hands‑on testing, quality issue resolution, new product introduction, design validation, and manufacturing implementation. What you will do Collaborate with suppliers to identify and resolve design, manufacturing, and quality issues. Design new solenoid products. Develop, validate, and implement design changes. Communicate project status with stakeholders and participating functional areas. Education Requirement Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum. Key Skills Data Gathering & Analysis: Basic understanding of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment. Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Basic understanding of the decision‑making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Effective Communications: Working knowledge of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. 3D Software: Working knowledge of the types, features and tools of 3D software; ability to use, implement, test and upgrade the software package in the process of 3D models production. Product Testing: Basic understanding of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing. Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Basic understanding of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
