Chief Purpose of this Position:

The Cardiology Hospitalistprogram is to allow for inpatient inhouse coverage on theCardiology units at night 12 hours per day 7 days per week. TheHospitalist service is a 3 person team of internists who supportthe Cardiology inpatient teams in the care of patients withmultiple medical problems and to support the expansion of CVservices. The hospitalists are also called to see chest pain levelIII patients in the Emergency Room. The positions are COSA fundedand 100% MCVP positions. The moonlighting attendings support theschedule coverage.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching

To support teaching directly via interactions with Fellows,Housestaff and non-physician professionals.

Research

To support clinical research protocols in recruitment andadjunctive clinical management

Clinical

Anticipated inpatient night coverage as needed to support full timefaculty or vacancies for positions with schedules as follows: Thefull time workload and time commitments are commensurate with themedical hospitalists - nocturnists; duty hours will beapproximately 14 to 15 shifts per 4-week period of time. Duties: todirectly manage patients on the inpatient and observationalCardiology services 12 hours overnight in a collaborative mannerwith the Cardiology faculty and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).To provide Emergency Department consultations regarding CardiologyAdmissions. To work collaboratively with Cardiology Attendings,Fellows, Residents and APPs to assure a unified Cardiology plan isdeveloped for each patient.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.)

Submit billing and document care as required by the organization.Abide by all medical staff requirements. Participate in qualityinitiatives.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced training in Critical Care Medicine
