Duties & Responsibilities

Mission or Goal of Unit

Pursue the clinical, research, and education missions of the VCU’sacademic medical center in the specialties of Hematology, Oncology,and Palliative Care. Through bench research, clinical trials, andthe rigorous study of prevention control, our scientists pursue themany roles of medicine in treating, preventing, and managing theadverse events of cancer through the continuum of care. Ourhallmark activity is translational research, where our physiciansand scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patientas quickly and safely as possible. Through our training programs,our faculty train the next generation of physicians and scientiststo further advance practice and science.

Chief Purpose of this Position

The VCU School of Medicine Division of Hematology, Oncology andPalliative Care and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center are seekinga medical oncologist and hematologist to practice at our future,new location in Chesterfield County.

This position will be responsible for seeing patients in theoutpatient clinic and attending on the inpatient wards and consultservice.

Teaching

Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the lab and whilein the clinic. Expected to actively participate in providingclinical research opportunities to fellows.

Research

You will have access to our strong VCU School of Medicine facultydevelopment programs, research training and resources. You mayparticipate in sponsored research activities for which yourexpectations include, but are not limited to, preparing manuscriptsfor submission to scholarly journals and preparing presentations asprofessional conferences. Likewise, you may be an investigator onsponsored research activities.

Clinical

Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/or seespatients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on hematologicmalignancies.

Qualifications

• Board certified or eligible in medical oncology orhematology
• Eligible for Virginia licensure
• Evidence of accomplishment/potential (e.g. – publications,trial PI) during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/orearly academic career
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty at VCU
