Registered Nurse RN Observation PCU

Primary City/State: Mesa, Arizona Department Name: Outpatient Observation Unit Work Shift: Varied Job Category: Nursing Outpatient Observation Unit is a 26‑bed dedicated observation unit that admits patients from the Emergency Department for further testing and observation to determine inpatient criteria or discharge home. Patients typically stay less than 24 hours. The unit has a patient‑to‑nurse ratio of 5:1 supported by patient care techs. Position Summary The position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. Core Functions Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; review histories, diagnostics, and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and other caregivers. Formulate a plan of care, including discharge plan, based on assessment data, patient and family input, and multidisciplinary team collaboration. Implement the plan through direct care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health‑care team activities; provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. Evaluate patients’ and families’ response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed; evaluate progress toward goals and outcomes. Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and legible manner. Provide evidence‑based care and may participate in research activities; participate in shared leadership and in the education and orientation of facility personnel, patients, and families. Contribute to society through activities that promote excellent patient outcomes and participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators. In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department. Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report and clarify information; synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources. Minimum Qualifications

• Current valid RN license in state of practice (or temporary/interim or compact).
• BLS certification required.
• One year of acute‑care RN experience in the specialty area within the past 12 months (or equivalent for travel or registry positions).
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required for home‑health positions.
• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Criminal History Affidavit required for behavioral health positions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
