Houston Administrative & Event Support Contractor (Part-Time/1099)

We're a close-knit group of professionals who collaborate seamlessly across multiple cities (HQ in Southern California) through active Slack communication and real-time collaboration. Role Description

We're seeking a Houston-based independent contractor to provide local administrative and on-the-ground support for one of our client accounts. This is a 1099, outcomes-based role — you'll be responsible for completing defined deliverables on a regular cadence, and you have full flexibility in how and when you complete that work, with one key exception: attendance at specific client meetings and events is required, on dates set by the client.

This role reports directly to our Managing Director (based in San Diego), who leads strategy and manages the primary client relationship. You'll act as her local administrative extension in Houston — handling administrative deliverables and providing in-person support at required meetings and events.

This role is well-suited to someone who is self-directed, manages their own time well, and is comfortable working within a defined scope rather than driving strategy.

Qualifications

  • Based in the Houston, TX region
  • 1+ years experience in administrative support, coordination, or event/meeting support
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Asana (or similar project management tools)
  • Ability to take direction and work within established processes
  • Reliable transportation and flexible availability for required event/meeting dates
  • Experience with QuickBooks is a plus but not required

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Support (Outcomes-Based)

  • Complete recurring administrative deliverables as directed by the MD (communications, scheduling, documentation)
  • Respond to inquiries via email, phone, and voicemail within 24 hours
  • Maintain shared calendar of meetings and events
  • Assist with vendor coordination as directed

On-the-Ground Event & Meeting Support (Required Attendance)

  • Attend client meetings and events as scheduled — dates determined by client needs and may not be flexible
  • Provide on-site support, including: Registration and check-in assistance
  • Materials preparation and distribution
  • Venue and vendor coordination on-site
  • General logistics support
  • Communicate updates and on-site status to the MD in real time

Structure & Time Commitment

  • Independent contractor (1099), outcomes-based engagement
  • You set your own schedule for completing deliverables — work is evaluated on results, not hours logged
  • Required attendance at client-designated meetings/events in Houston (schedule provided in advance)
  • Estimated time investment varies based on deliverable load and event schedule

Contract Terms

  • Independent contractor position (1099, at-will engagement)
  • Either party may terminate the engagement at any time
  • Contractor responsible for own taxes, insurance, and business expenses
  • No benefits provided
  • Deliverables, priorities, and required event dates to be set by the Managing Director
