School Nurse Substitute

Qualifications & Skills: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program. Valid nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners. CPR/AED certified. Previous experience in school, pediatric or community health is desirable. Communication with parents, teachers and staff. Pediatric/Adolescent assessment. Skills in time management and multitasking. Essential Functions: Administer temporary and emergency care procedures to ill and injured students and school personnel. Administer medications to students at school according to policy and procedure. Notify parents of illness or accident and secure medical care for students in emergency cases. Manage suspected and diagnosed cases of infectious diseases. Respect confidentiality related to personal health problems of students. Report potential health/safety hazards to Director of Student Health Services. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, TEA standards and school policy in health services area. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Regularly works in standard office conditions and climate. Regularly uses close and distance vision; ability to observe students from various distances. Frequently required to move around the campus/classroom/playground. Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 30lbs. across the campus/classroom/playground. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff and community members.
