Position Overview
The Facilitator & Program Support Aid supports HEAF Achieve and HEAF Inspire programming for students in grades 6-12 through instruction, lesson preparation, classroom and program operations, student supervision, family outreach, recordkeeping, chaperoning, and other program support. The role is designed for a youth-development professional who can move between facilitation and administrative support based on program needs.

- Part-Time, Temporary; Hybrid/Rotating Schedule
Contract Term
- September 2026-May 2027 (academic year). Active programming schedules follow HEAF's Fall and Spring calendars.
Orientation
- Paid orientation and required pre-program training in September 2026. Orientation is paid at a flat rate of $50.
Weekly Hours
- Up to 10 hours per week, plus only pre-approved additional hours for required trips, workshops, events, or meetings. Compensation applies only to hours worked and does not cover school/program breaks.
Schedule
- Core Fall schedule: in person Tuesday & Wednesday, 5:00-7:30 PM; virtual Monday & Thursday, 3:30-5:30 PM, within the 10-hour weekly allocation. Fall programming: October 6-December 16, 2026. Spring 2027 programming dates and weekly schedule will be confirmed before the Spring semester. Additional program, trip, workshop, or event coverage may be scheduled with advance notice.

- PAL Harlem, 441 Manhattan Avenue, New York, NY 10026, and other HEAF/partner locations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate engaging lessons and activities and adapt instruction when needed
- Support HEAF Achieve and HEAF Inspire through lesson planning, preparation, facilitation, classroom management, setup, and student supervision.
- Support student and family communications and outreach, recordkeeping, and other core program operations.
- Work with students in grades 6-12 in one-on-one and group settings.
- Foster a collaborative learning environment that encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and active participation.
- Incorporate real-world examples and age-appropriate learning strategies.
- Assess student understanding and provide constructive feedback.
- Complete assigned weekly administrative and program tracking tasks.
- Maintain regular communication with program leadership regarding student progress, curriculum, and program needs.
- Chaperone students during trips, school visits, workshops, and special events as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; graduate students are encouraged to apply
- 1-3 years of teaching or direct youth-development experience with middle and/or high school students (approximately ages 11-18).
- Experience with project-based or inquiry-based learning techniques.
- Strong interpersonal, classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace.
- Commitment to HEAF's educational and youth-development philosophy.
- Ability to work collaboratively with HEAF staff and commit to the full academic-year contract term.
