This support is provided through two specialized ICUs: our 43 bed Pediatric ICU (PICU) and 24 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Our nursing staff can cross-train for both units.Our CICU sees approximately 1,000 admissions annually, with over 400 of those children receiving complex congenital heart surgery. Our nurses are innovators and leaders who are helping improve care and are changing how pediatric nursing is practiced here and around the world. Our commitment to education and training has led to Children's Mercy having more advanced practice, specialty certified and BSN-prepared nurses than any other hospital in the region. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training orBachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013.
