Restaurant Assistant General Manager

Location: New York, NY

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant General Manager to join the management team of a dynamic and growing restaurant operation in New York City. The ideal candidate is a hands-on hospitality professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong passion for guest service, team development, and operational excellence.

The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager to oversee daily restaurant operations, lead the management team, develop employees, and ensure the restaurant consistently delivers an exceptional guest experience while meeting financial and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the General Manager with the overall operation and performance of the restaurant.
• Lead daily front-of-house and back-of-house operations to ensure smooth and efficient service.
• Coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and hourly team members.
• Maintain high standards for hospitality, food quality, service, cleanliness, and safety.
• Act as Manager on Duty and provide strong leadership during busy shifts.
• Assist with staffing, scheduling, labor management, and employee retention.
• Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new team members.
• Monitor sales, labor, food costs, inventory, and other key operating expenses.
• Assist with achieving sales, profitability, and guest satisfaction goals.
• Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily expectations and priorities.
• Address guest concerns professionally and ensure timely resolution.
• Work closely with the culinary and service teams to maintain consistent standards.
• Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, safety, and company policies.
• Assist with inventory management, ordering, receiving, and loss prevention.
• Support special events, private parties, and high-volume business periods.
• Help create a positive, professional, and accountable team culture.
• Maintain a visible presence on the restaurant floor and lead by example.
• Support the General Manager with administrative and operational responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of restaurant management experience; full-service experience preferred.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
• Strong understanding of restaurant operations, staffing, scheduling, and cost control.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional demeanor with a strong commitment to hospitality.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
