Communications Manager Electrify DC Hybrid · Washington, DC, US 8 days ago Job Description Reports to: Executive Director Location: DMV region, with a few in-person meetings each month. About the role Electrify DC is working to make home electrification real for people across the DMV, and the work is growing fast. We are looking for a Communications Manager to tell that story to homeowners and renters, to the contractors and real estate professionals doing the work, and to the wider public looking for ways to make their homes healthier, safer and more affordable to run. This is an early hire on a small team, which means you will own communications rather than execute someone else's plan. You will set the editorial and creative direction, decide how we show up in the media and online, and shape how a growing organization sounds. Your first major test arrives quickly: the Healthy Homes Fair, our biggest annual event, takes place on March 13, 2027, and preparations begin in September 2026. If you want climate work where your writing changes what people do in their own homes and how they participate in the energy market, this is that role. What you will do Own Electrify DC's communications and content strategy, and set the editorial and creative vision for how we tell our story. Lead communications for the Healthy Homes Fair from September through the March 2027 event, and for our core programs including REALE and the demonstration sites. Write and produce our monthly newsletter, commission and edit blog posts and guest contributors, and run an editorial calendar that keeps the website, social channels, and newsletter consistent. Write content strategically, not just well — understanding how people search for topics related to home upgrades, so our work on electrification and clean energy actually reaches the people looking for it, rather than sitting unread. Build relationships with journalists and secure regular local, trade, and national coverage. Grow our storytelling to reflect the full range of people we serve — homeowners and renters, renovation professionals, real estate agents, and career seekers. Maintain our brand and style guidelines, and manage the videographers, photographers, and designers we bring in for campaigns. Support the monthly meetings of the community of practice Electrify DMV Network Grow the stature of the organization through sharing our impact on people’s homes and our thought leadership on energy affordability, health and grid stability. Create the decks, talking points, and materials that support the Executive Director and team at events, and bring a creative lens to grant writing and fundraising materials. What we are looking for Three to five years developing and executing communications strategies, ideally somewhere small or scaling. A genuinely strong writer and editor who can find the human story inside a heat pump. Ability to “market”/influence the right choices through captivating, far reaching social media content. Good sense of what moves people and writing to that effect. Proven experience securing media coverage for a cause or an organization. Self-directed and comfortable owning a function, with the judgement to prioritize when everything feels urgent. Strong organization and follow-through, and the ability to hold several deadlines at once. High emotional intelligence, and the ability to work across a range of professional and cultural backgrounds. Confident with Google Suite, Wordpress, Canva, Slack, Asana, Eventbrite, and Zoom; familiarity with Salesforce or a similar CRM. Rooted in, or eager to plug into, the DMV climate community. Nice to have Familiarity with residential electrification, clean energy, or the health impacts of burning fossil fuels indoors. Experience creating, or working with creators on, documentary film, podcasts, or visual storytelling. Basic SEO literacy (understanding search intent, on-page best practices) Spanish language proficiency, or experience working with translators.
