Regulatory Compliance Specialist

The Regulatory Compliance Specialist (RCS) provides administrative, operational, and programmatic support for research compliance programs administered by the Office of Research Compliance and Training (RCT), with an approximate 70/30 split between export controls/international research compliance and conflict of interest/research misconduct activities. The RCS reports to the Senior Director of Research Security Export Controls.

Responsibilities

Export Controls and International Research Compliance Programs (70%)

Working at the direction of the Director of Export Controls and International Engagement, the RCS will:

• Provide administrative and operational support for export controls, sanctions, and research security compliance programs, including monitoring the Research Compliance inbox, responding to and directing incoming inquiries as appropriate, maintaining compliance documentation, tracking compliance matters, and assisting with preparation of reports and related correspondence.
• Review Restricted Party Screening alerts and assist with resolution of routine screening matters; create and distribute Visual Compliance usage reports; approve new user requests; distribute training materials.
• Assist with preparation of export classifications, technology control plans, license applications, and related compliance documentation.
• Provide administrative support for the University's International Research Committee (IRC), including preparing agendas and meeting materials, attending meetings, drafting minutes, distributing follow-up correspondence, and tracking action items.
• Provide support to relevant working groups (e.g., Research Security Working Group); prepare working group materials and track the status of working group action items.

Conflict of Interest (COI) and Other Areas (30%)

Working at the direction of the Director for Research Compliance, the RCS will engage in the following activities:

• Provide administrative and operational support for the institutional conflict of interest and research misconduct programs.
• Help ensure that all COI Committee requirements are implemented post-review. Responsibilities may include drafting relevant correspondence and documentation; tracking and coordinating COI Committee follow-up and conflict management plans; and helping to ensure that reporting and other deadlines are met.
• In collaboration with other members of the COI team, the RCS may assist in reviewing faculty conflict of interest disclosure forms, identifying whether additional information is needed, and communicating with faculty and staff to obtain relevant information.
• Assist in testing and planning for deployment of improved in-house electronic review systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of other research compliance and training programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Exposure to an academic, scientific or regulatory environment is a plus. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required. Must be detail-oriented, organized, and have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Docs. Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred. Experience in research administration, compliance, higher education administration, regulatory affairs, or related fields preferred.
