Marketing & Communications Coordinator
We Are Rosie
Step into a high-impact marketing role where digital storytelling makes a meaningful difference in healthcare. The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) is seeking a creative, communicative, and driven individual to join its in-house marketing team as Marketing & Communications Coordinator. This position supports the Marketing & Communications Specialist, Marketing & Events Manager, and Director of Marketing & Communications, along with other organizational departments, across social media, email marketing, website content management, event and merchandise logistics, and advertising campaigns. From copywriting and graphic design to scheduling posts and monitoring engagement, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring consistent, engaging, and on-brand communications across multiple channels to a highly discerning audience. If you enjoy being challenged both creatively and analytically, and you don’t want any two workdays to look exactly the same, this position may be the right fit for you. BCEN is the benchmark for excellence in nursing specialty certification, with nearly 55,000 nurses holding over 65,000 BCEN credentials worldwide. A not‑for‑profit organization headquartered just outside of Chicago in Oak Brook, IL, BCEN develops nationally accredited certification exams and award‑winning continuing education offerings that empower emergency, trauma, transport and burn nurses to deliver expert bedside care and contribute noticeably to patient outcomes. Founded in 1980, BCEN has proudly advanced specialty practice for nearly 50 years. We are looking for someone who is passionate about furthering BCEN’s vision that every patient across the emergency spectrum receives care from a BCEN-certified nurse. Role Summary The BCEN Marketing & Communications Coordinator (MCC) is accountable to the Director of Marketing & Communications with responsibility for digital marketing support, event support, and administrative support. As an integral part of the BCEN Marketing Team, the MCC also supports the Marketing & Events Manager and the Marketing & Communications Specialist with their work areas, as outlined below. The MCC follows, maintains, and updates the BCEN Communications Calendar as directed. The MCC accomplishes their work through highly effective relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders. The MCC is a high-impact position at BCEN with significant need for attention to detail, creativity, responsiveness, and follow-through. The MCC should always conduct themselves with the utmost professionality as a representative of BCEN and the marketing team. Primary Role Responsibilities 1. Vision. The MCC understands the vision of BCEN and assures that every decision made advances the organization toward that vision. 2. Stakeholder Relationships. The MCC may interact with BCEN volunteers (including board members), candidates, association partners, and candidate employers (hospitals/healthcare facilities). This role also works closely with external vendors such as marketing agencies, website development firms, and media partners. Finally, the MCC supports all internal BCEN teams, including Operations/Customer Service, Certification & Accreditation, and BCEN Learn, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills to ensure positive professional relationships with each department. 3. Social Media. The MCC supports the Marketing & Communications Specialist by scheduling BCEN social media platform messages on Hootsuite according to the content calendar (typically 5 posts/week across 3 channels). The MCC also monitors social channels for engagement and comments or messages needing addressed. The MCC provides organic performance reporting of all social channels on a monthly basis, and works with the Marketing & Communications Specialist to roll up this reporting into quarterly or mid-year/end-of-year reports. Experience writing and designing social media posts and developing social media content strategy, or the desire to learn and support this area, is a plus. 4. Email Marketing. The MCC supports the Marketing & Communications Specialist with email marketing campaigns, from content development and message layout to sending proofs for approval, scheduling single sends, and setting up drip campaigns/email journeys. Experience writing and designing email marketing and developing email marketing strategy, or the desire to learn and support this area, is a plus. 5. Website. The MCC maintains and updates content on the BCEN website, a WordPress site using Elementor, in partnership with the Marketing & Communications Specialist and BCEN’s website development firm. This includes building new pages publishing blog posts, making content or visual edits on existing pages, uploading resources or media assets, etc. 6. Merchandise. The MCC should be familiar with the merchandise available through our contracted vendor and will contribute to decisions that impact the growth of the merchandise portfolio, supporting the Marketing & Events Manager with staff store management, merchandise inventory, order submissions/routing proofs for approval, shipping/fulfillment, and other needs as assigned. 7. Communications & Design. The MCC should maintain highly polished written communication skills and graphic design skills, and be able to contribute to the development and regular inventory/updating of printed and digital marketing materials, including handouts, flyers, signage, letterhead and PPT templates, social media, email marketing, and website content. 8. Photography & Videography. The MCC may support the marketing team with content production, including photography using a mobile phone or DSLR camera, and videography using a mobile phone, DSLR camera or handheld video device. 9. Administrative Duties. The MCC supports all members of the marketing team with administrative duties, including but not limited to accounting; project management; packing, shipping, and unpacking marketing items for BCEN events; and other duties as assigned. 10. Other. The MCC holds other duties and projects as assigned, subject to change based on the annual marketing strategy as developed by the Marketing & Communications Director. This role is designed to grow with the staff member hired, so there is flexibility to learn new skills, implement new platforms, and explore new areas of interest as it pertains to marketing and communications at BCEN. The ideal candidate brings 1–3+ years of marketing or communications experience, with hands‑on familiarity in tools like WordPress, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Canva, and email marketing platforms. Strong writing, design sensibility, and an organized, detail-oriented mindset are essential, along with a collaborative spirit and eagerness to grow. Most importantly, this role is intended for someone who wants their marketing work to connect to something bigger, making a lasting impact on the patients, families, and communities cared for by board‑certified nurses working across the emergency spectrum. General Requirements 1. EDUCATION. The ideal incumbent will have advanced education in marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design, business or a related field. 2. EXPERIENCE. The ideal incumbent would have 1-3+ years of professional marketing experience. They will have proficiency in WordPress and the Elementor theme in which the BCEN website is built. Extensive experience with current BCEN social media platforms (Meta Business Suite, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Hootsuite) is necessary to manage posts, respond to comments and provide performance reporting. Experience with YouTube and TikTok is preferred but not required. The incumbent should also be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, and Canva. Higher Logic/Informz Email Platform, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, and Smartsheet experience are preferred but not required. 3. COMPETENCIES: The ideal incumbent demonstrates or is actively developing skills and competencies in alignment with BCEN’s competency model: Values: Passionate and enthusiastic about the BCEN mission; authentic, with a deep sense of integrity; ambitious and driven to achieve; reflective and seeks feedback; values diversity; is a continuous learner. Team Skills: Listens actively; asks questions; works collaboratively with all internal and external stakeholders; maintains open, honest, and direct communication; keeps team/staff members informed; seeks others’ viewpoint; manages conflict respectfully; takes accountability and learns from mistakes for growth. Functional Skills: Strong knowledge of marketing and communications; critical, keen eye to ensure error‑free work; excellent project management and organizational skills; embraces the evolving landscape of technology; manages time and other resources well; sets and achieves measurable goals; creative and curious mindset; ability to follow review/approval process. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate kindly and articulate self professionally; appreciates the significance of organizational culture and contributes positively to the workplace dynamic; cares about the candidate experience; responds timely to others’ needs; fully “owns” scope of work; continually focused on improvement. Navigating Change: Understands the organization is growing and evolving; ability to pivot when priorities change; willing to work with new team members or accept new/different job duties as needed; comfortable approaching supervisor with questions or support needed to navigate change. 4. WORK ENVIRONMENT: A brief overview of the expectations regarding schedule, location, and other environmental requirements is below: Schedule: The MCC role is hourly, reporting for work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm Central Time, with a daily 30-minute lunch break. These working days/hours may change based on timing of conferences, retreats or other offsite events which necessitate travel and/or schedule variations. Location: The MCC role allows for a hybrid work schedule. The ideal incumbent should live in or around the Oak Brook, Illinois area and work from BCEN Headquarters at least two days per week (subject to change). Equipment: A BCEN-provided laptop will be set up on the official start date, and monitors, keyboard, mouse, and docking station will be provided at the staff member’s desk at BCEN Headquarters. Home office equipment will also be provided. Usage of a mobile phone may be required for social media, photography and videography purposes. Physical Considerations: The work of the MCC is sedentary and office based; however, lifting/moving of boxes and being on your feet for hours at a time is often required. Travel: Traveling to conferences at which BCEN is exhibiting during peak conference seasons (April-May and September-November) and BCEN’s own annual conference (July) may be requested. Traveling for offsite team retreats may also be requested. Airfare/mileage reimbursement, hotel fees, and other travel expenses will be covered by BCEN pursuant to the organizational travel policy for any BCEN-related travel. #J-18808-Ljbffr
