Position Title: Regulatory Counsel

A rapidly expanding organization in the property and casualty insurance industry is seeking a Regulatory Counsel to support its insurance carriers, navigate evolving state regulatory requirements, and provide practical legal guidance as the business expands into new markets. This position will play an important role in managing regulatory filings, supporting compliance initiatives, advising on insurance laws, and collaborating with internal stakeholders on corporate governance and business operations.

The ideal candidate is an ambitious, self-directed attorney with insurance regulatory experience, strong legal judgment, and the ability to independently manage complex legal matters in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Salary Range: $115,000 - $190,000 / Year, DOE

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and track insurance regulatory submissions, policy form and rate filings, licensing applications, and other required documentation
• Monitor Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) requirements and regulatory developments across additional states, ensuring compliance with applicable insurance laws and filing deadlines
• Manage regulatory inquiries, market conduct examinations and data calls while coordinating responses with internal teams and state insurance departments
• Research and interpret state insurance codes, administrative rules and NAIC model laws, providing practical legal guidance on underwriting, claims and policy administration
• Support corporate governance activities, including board and committee materials, resolutions, corporate records and regulatory documentation
• Draft and review reinsurance agreements, vendor contracts and other commercial agreements, identifying legal risks and advising business stakeholders
• Collaborate with underwriting, claims, actuarial and leadership teams to support new insurance products, regulatory expansion and ongoing compliance initiatives

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar membership in the candidate's state of residence
• Several years of experience practicing law, preferably within an insurance company, insurance regulatory practice, law firm, or government insurance department
• Experience with insurance regulatory matters, including state regulatory filings, insurance compliance, or interactions with state insurance regulators
• Strong understanding of property and casualty insurance regulations, with experience navigating Florida insurance requirements or regulatory frameworks in other states
• Ability to independently manage complex legal matters, interpret regulatory requirements, and communicate practical recommendations to business stakeholders
• Strong legal research, contract review, and organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research platforms such as Westlaw
• Familiarity with NAIC model laws, SERFF, interstate filing processes, and Certificate of Authority procedures preferred; international regulatory experience is a plus
