About this position
About Stussy
In the late ’80s and early ’90s, a brand was born from the Southern California surf scene and swept through the clothing landscape to redefine the look and ideology of casualwear. That brand was Stüssy, a label that grew organically from youth movements and inadvertently revolutionized the clothing business.
Shawn Stüssy was a surfer who used to shape his own boards for friends and locals in Laguna Beach, California. Stüssy began screening t-shirts and shorts to sell along with the surfboards as a form of promotion; his surname written in a graffiti‑influenced hand style was to become the company logo. Stüssy inadvertently fell into the clothing business through his deep‑rooted love of surfing, and in a few short years, people were talking within the small, insular world of surf and skateboarding in the late ’80s. Shawn set up small showrooms in New York and California and hit the road, showing his designs to stores he respected. The brand grew during a time when epochal shifts that now frame contemporary popular culture were taking place. In the music scene the late ’70s gave us punk, while the early ’80s brought us a new DIY type of music called rap. Punk broke creative and aesthetic barriers and taught us that anyone could have a band. Rap pushed social boundaries and explored the ideas of remixing and sampling. These new ideas and territories created a new modern platform for fashion and cultural expression. The designs and overall aesthetic touched on references from a range of underground subcultures that resonated with Stüssy. This approach appealed to a worldwide network of creative youth who shared a common interest in surf‑culture, skating and music. Limited distribution fuelled the desire internationally, and those who wanted the gear found it and felt a part of something bigger in the process.
With Stüssy’s success came the opportunity to travel and spread the Stüssy vibe. The clothing was inspired by an international group of musicians, skaters, DJs and artists with similar tastes; trendsetters in New York, London, Tokyo and other areas of the world were eager to get aboard this movement inspired by a network of like‑minded individuals. This group of friends later became the “International Stüssy Tribe” with chapters in New York, Tokyo, London, Berlin and Los Angeles. With a strong network of tribe members wearing the brand in clubs and on the scene across the globe, the Stüssy message spread organically. The brand was committed to producing relevant, good quality clothing at a reasonable price available only at very select stores worldwide in limited quantities. This was an entirely new concept at the time, which has since been used to varying degrees of success.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Stüssy's Global Technology team runs the systems behind our stores, ecommerce, wholesale, and logistics. This includes ERP, ecommerce, merchandise planning, third‑party logistics integrations, store and end‑user IT, and the data platform that connects these systems.
We are rebuilding our technology foundation while continuing to support daily business operations. NetSuite is replacing our ERP, RELEX is replacing our planning system, and we are transitioning to a new third‑party logistics provider, rebuilding our data layer on BigQuery, and rearchitecting Shopify.
The VP of Technology leads this organization, overseeing enterprise architecture, business systems strategy, Business Applications, Data & Engineering, and IT Infrastructure. This role is responsible for delivering the new technology foundation while building the internal capabilities needed to support and continuously improve it.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the sequenced, costed multi‑year technology roadmap across NetSuite, Shopify ecommerce and POS, RELEX, BigQuery, and future PLM, aligned with company goals.
- Lead NetSuite and RELEX delivery as the executive technology owner, overseeing architecture, integrations, data migration, testing, cutover, and post‑go‑live stabilization while protecting approved scope, budget, and timelines.
- Own enterprise architecture across ERP, ecommerce, POS, planning, PLM, order and warehouse systems, data, and analytics. Establish system‑of‑record ownership and clear platform boundaries.
- Partner with Finance, Planning, Operations, Retail, Ecommerce, and Logistics leaders to translate business needs into a prioritized roadmap with clear trade‑offs.
- Lead and develop the Business Applications, Data & Engineering, and IT Infrastructure teams, strengthening internal platform ownership and reducing unnecessary dependence on external partners.
- Develop the BigQuery‑based data and analytics roadmap in partnership with the Data & Engineering Leader, enabling reliable, self‑service reporting across the business.
- Own the technology budget, resource plan, and vendor relationships while ensuring dependable application, infrastructure, and end‑user support.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- 10+ years of progressively responsible technology leadership experience in retail, apparel, footwear, consumer products, or a similarly complex omnichannel business, ideally with revenue of several hundred million dollars or more.
- Experience leading a major ERP implementation from design through stabilization while maintaining business operations. Direct NetSuite experience is strongly preferred; comparable ERP implementation leadership experience is required.
- Deep experience with Shopify ecommerce and retail ecosystems, including Shopify Plus, POS, and related applications supporting orders, inventory, fulfillment, payments, and customer experience.
- Experience implementing or operating merchandise planning, allocation, and replenishment platforms such as RELEX, Toolio, Blue Yonder, or comparable solutions.
- Strong enterprise architecture capabilities across applications, integrations, and data ownership, with an understanding of product lifecycle, merchandising, inventory, store operations, fulfillment, and financial processes.
- Experience delivering business analytics and reporting in partnership with business leaders, including data quality, metric definitions, and modern data platforms.
- Experience building and developing internal technology teams, managing managers, and establishing platform support and knowledge transfer from implementation partners.
- Experience owning multi-project roadmaps, budgets, and governance, including disciplined intake, prioritization, capacity planning, and change control.
- Strong business-facing leadership skills, including the ability to listen, translate requirements, communicate trade‑offs clearly, and build alignment across executives and functional teams.
PREFERRED
- Background in apparel, fashion, footwear, or streetwear, with experience in global, multi‑region retail, ecommerce, and wholesale environments.
- Direct RELEX implementation experience, BigQuery experience, and exposure to PLM and third‑party logistics integrations.
- Experience building a platform ownership or internal product management model for business systems.
- Experience leading a hybrid organization of in‑house leads and outsourced or offshore specialists.
- Experience leading technology in a founder‑led or brand‑led business.
