About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical - Neuro Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years with 1 year of direct MedSurg experience. License: Active nursing license required. Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS. ACLS preferred but not required. Must-Have: - Med/Surg neuro experience. - EKG testing must be passed prior to start for this specialty. - Travelers are required to work every other weekend. Description: The unit cares primarily for stroke patients. Additional focus includes possible neurosurgery patients and other neuro diagnoses such as epilepsy and subdural hematomas. We have a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). The EMU nurse has a 4:1 patient ratio. Daily census averages around 50 patients. Floating between other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas may be required. We have a variety of interdisciplinary support including IV teams and physical therapy. Essential skills include IV start and telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and blood product administration. Candidates must have experience with managing cardiac drips and neuro stepdown care. All RTO must be pre-approved, and the unit has specific requirements regarding patient ratios during shifts.
