Make a real difference every day by providing essential one-on-one support for a student with unique medical needs. This rewarding contract opportunity is ideal for an experienced professional passionate about special education and creating inclusive, nurturing educational environments.
Key Qualifications:
- Two years of college credits from an accredited institution, OR an associate degree or higher, OR a passing score on an approved academic assessment (ParaPro, ParaPathways, The Master Teacher), OR meet competencies on the MDE-approved grid
- PCA certificate, or willingness to obtain one (free and takes less than an hour)
- At least one year of experience working with school-aged children in a professional setting
- Preference for applicants with two or more years of paraprofessional experience in a school setting
- Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate, calm approach—especially when supporting students with medical needs such as seizures
Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated, personalized assistance as a 1:1 aide for a student throughout the school day (8:45am-4:00pm)
- Support the student with daily routines and ensure safety and well-being, especially in the event of medical needs like seizures
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and school staff to facilitate an inclusive learning experience
- Assist with academic, behavioral, and personal care needs as directed by educational and healthcare plans
- Maintain clear, respectful communication with the student’s team and demonstrate flexibility in an evolving school environment
