Associate Scientist - Solid State Characterization

Associate Scientist position supporting solid state characterization of pharmaceutical drug candidates, including salt forms, polymorphs, and particle analysis. Role involves conducting analytical testing, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to materials science methodology development in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct solid state characterization analysis on small molecule pharmaceuticals using multiple analytical techniques
• Support multidisciplinary teams in defining and executing crystallization, polymorph, and salt screening activities
• Perform particle and surface characterization of pharmaceutical powders including size, shape, and surface properties
• Collaborate with medicinal chemistry and formulation teams to develop solid form selection strategies
• Maintain accurate laboratory documentation in electronic notebook systems following good laboratory practices

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, or chemical engineering with 2+ years experience, or Master's degree
• Experience with solid state characterization techniques such as X-ray powder diffraction, DSC, TGA, and microscopy
• Knowledge of infrared spectroscopy methods (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) and/or solid state NMR preferred
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry fundamentals
• Strong data analysis, independent work capability, and written/oral communication skills
• Experience solving materials science problems through experimental approaches and team collaboration
