Design Engineer

POSITION SUMMARYThe Tool Designer plans, designs, and integrates tooling, fixtures, dies, and related equipment used throughout Morton Industries’ manufacturing processes. This position partners closely with Engineering, Tooling, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations to develop effective manufacturing solutions, improve process capability, reduce costs, and support the ongoing improvement of production processes.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESResearch and analyze manufacturing methods required to produce products in accordance with customer requirements and specifications.Design tooling, jigs, fixtures, dies, and support equipment necessary to meet manufacturing and product requirements.Develop detailed drawings, prints, specifications, and other documentation required for the fabrication of tooling and equipment.Partner with supervisors, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to improve product quality, manufacturability, and process capability.Coordinate with Maintenance on new equipment installations, modifications, and complex troubleshooting needs.Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing time, material usage, and overall production costs.Support and implement cost-reduction initiatives driven by customer requirements or organizational goals.Obtain and evaluate quotes for equipment, machinery, tooling, and other resources required for process improvements.Provide accurate technical information and documentation to support the development and maintenance of controlled work instructions.Apply a working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements within assigned responsibilities.Support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling, equipment, manufacturing processes, safety, quality, and productivity.Perform other duties as assigned.CORE COMPETENCIESTechnical ExpertiseApplies knowledge of tooling, manufacturing methods, materials, equipment, and design principles to develop practical and effective solutions.Problem Solving & InnovationAnalyzes manufacturing challenges, identifies root causes, and develops resourceful solutions that improve quality, efficiency, and process capability.Project Management & OrganizationEffectively manages multiple priorities and projects while communicating progress, changes, risks, and timelines.Quality & Attention to DetailProduces accurate, thorough designs and technical documentation while maintaining a strong focus on customer and manufacturing requirements.Communication & CollaborationCommunicates clearly with employees across departments, listens effectively, shares technical expertise, and contributes positively to team problem-solving.Customer FocusResponds to internal and external customer needs, follows through on commitments, and supports solutions that meet product and process requirements.Professionalism & DependabilityTakes ownership of responsibilities, follows through on commitments, maintains confidentiality, and consistently demonstrates professional conduct.Continuous ImprovementLooks for opportunities to improve tooling, processes, cost, quality, safety, and productivity while adapting effectively to changing manufacturing needs.MORTON INDUSTRIES VALUESEmployees are expected to demonstrate Morton Industries’ values through their daily decisions, interactions, and performance:Integrity in ActionFocused on Team SuccessDriven to DeliverConsistent ProgressProfessional AuthenticitySUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONSDemonstrated knowledge of tooling, fixture, jig, and die design within a manufacturing environment.Ability to read, interpret, and develop detailed technical drawings, prints, and specifications.Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Operations.ATTENDANCERegular and reliable attendance is required to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position. Multi-plant is a plus.Experience with a manufacturing ERP software.
