FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool - Fine Arts, Painting and Drawing

Fine arts department at Fashion Institute of Technology invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty positions teaching courses in Painting and Drawing. Job Description Applicants should possess extensive knowledge of art history, contemporary practices, and have a cross‑cultural approach to curriculum development. Artists and educators with expertise in 2D mediums of painting and drawing are sought. Candidates must meet the required skill sets for specific courses as determined per class. Skill Set (example) Knowledge of two‑dimensional design concepts and materials. Knowledge of structural drawing concepts for foundation level courses. Fundamentals of oil painting introductory level instruction with perceptual approach to still life and figure. Drawing of human figure with color and scale considerations. Teaching sustained drawing using mixed media. Teaching synthesis of observation, invention, abstraction, and process. Articulate a contemporary approach to painting/drawing and guide students in concept and form. Responsibilities & Essential Functions Provide guidance, input and assistance to students in projects. Encourage creativity and critical thinking while fostering a supportive learning environment. Submit grades promptly and accurately. Maintain attendance and organized records of student performance. Fulfill administrative responsibilities, including office hours and participation in department meetings and committees. Ensure a safe community learning environment, including proper use of materials and equipment. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Relevant 6 years of industry experience and/or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications: At least one year of teaching experience at the college level. Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Comprehensive expertise in painting and drawing concepts, processes, and materials. Strong understanding of structural form beyond image making in student work. Teach visual concepts and ensure safe use of tools and studio. Communicate historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts and contemporary practices through lecture and visual presentations. Write a syllabus, deliver relevant course materials with lectures and demonstrations, and assess student performance. Communicate and work with classroom technicians. Additional Information Part‑time adjunct teaching position beginning Spring 2026. The department will keep this posting open to create a pool of candidates for future adjunct assignments. Compensation The UCE‑FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement governs compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. $89.98 per hour, based on minimum qualifications. Final rate determined by demonstration of higher qualifications per CBA adjunct salary schedules.
