Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher serving grades 3-6 in a supportive, self-contained classroom environment. With a weekly commitment of 37.5 hours, you'll have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in students' lives, working closely alongside 1-2 classroom aides. The district is open to welcoming travel professionals, but please note: Alabama certification reciprocity can take up to six weeks—early action is encouraged to secure your placement for the upcoming school year.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teaching Certification for Alabama, or eligibility for AL reciprocity
- Prior experience in self-contained or similar special education settings preferred
- Commitment to fostering growth in a small caseload, beginning with 5-6 students, with potential for up to 8
- Ability to collaborate with classroom aides and contribute to a positive learning environment
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to diverse learner needs
- Provide differentiated instruction in a self-contained classroom
- Document and evaluate student progress, goals, and outcomes
- Collaborate with aides, related service providers, and families to support student success
- Contribute to IEP meetings and compliance paperwork as needed
