Environmental Program Specialist Flex 1/2/3 The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of AK National Guard (AKARNG), Environmental Section (ENV) is recruiting for an Environmental Program Specialist (EPS) Flex 1/2/3. The position is in the General Government (GGU) Bargaining Unit and is flexibly staffed based on experience and/or training plan. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Salary Ranges: Flex 1 – Range 14 – $1,999.50; Flex 2 – Range 16 – $2,296.50; Flex 3 – Range 18 – $2,646.00 What You Will Be Doing Supports the Alaska Army National Guard’s Environmental Office by assisting with environmental compliance activities such as hazardous waste handling, fuel storage tank management, spill response and cleanup, and soil and water sampling. The role also involves conducting site evaluations, supporting cultural resource protection efforts, and providing formal and on-the-job training to the compliance team. Contributes to the safe and environmentally responsible operation of AKARNG facilities and activities. Who We Are Looking For Environmental Engineering: Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources. Technical Expertise: Applies technical knowledge to solve complex problems and develop expert-level solutions. Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information clearly, adapts to audience, and delivers convincing presentations. Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses logical, systematic, and sequential approaches to address problems. Incident Management: Knowledge of tactics, technologies, principles, and processes to protect and handle incidents. Minimum Qualifications Requirements vary by Flex level. Each level requires relevant education and experience. Minimum Qualifications for Environmental Program Specialist 1 Problem Solving: Identifies problems, evaluates alternatives, and makes recommendations. Research: Applies scientific principles and methods to conduct systematic inquiry. Oral Communication: Provides clear presentations and listens actively. Equivalent to those typically gained by: A bachelor's degree in environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources. Minimum Qualifications for Environmental Program Specialist 2 Environmental Science: Knowledge of interdisciplinary concepts and methods in environmental investigation. Scientific Research: Applies scientific principles to conduct systematic inquiry. Critical Thinking: Analyzes data to draw logical conclusions. Oral Communication: Communicates effectively, listens attentively, and delivers clear presentations. Equivalent to those typically gained by: A bachelor's degree in environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources. AND Professional experience in environmental regulations, pollution control, environmental damage recovery, or related programs. Minimum Qualifications for Environmental Program Specialist 3 Scientific Research: Knowledge of scientific principles related to environmental science and methods to conduct systematic inquiry. Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring program compliance with Federal laws. Decision Making: Makes sound, objective decisions and commits to action. Oral Communication: Provides clear presentations and listens attentively. Equivalent to those typically gained by: A bachelor's degree in environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources.
