Police Officer Recruit

Police Officer Recruit Monthly salary $6,828 – $8,299 plus competitive benefits package. This recruitment is to establish an eligibility list for the Vernon Police Department for future vacancies. The recruitment may close at any time with or without prior notice. Under close supervision, the recruit attends a California POST basic training academy to obtain State Peace Officer Certification. This is the entry‑level non‑sworn, non‑peace officer training position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Attend classroom training sessions and take required notes. Complete written, oral, and skills proficiency examinations and maintain required proficiency levels. Participate in physical conditioning training and testing and maintain required fitness. Adhere to CA POST academy rules and regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education, Training and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must be at least 21 years old upon graduation and satisfy citizenship or permanent resident requirements. Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, including polygraph, and meet POST medical and physical requirements. Successful completion of all required training makes the recruit eligible for consideration for appointment to a sworn Police Officer position. Failure to complete the training results in termination from employment without right of appeal. License & Certification Requirements Valid California State Driver’s License. Knowledge of City and Vernon Police Department policies and procedures; safe work practices; occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skill in maintaining professional standards, following instruction, understanding training materials, and communicating effectively. Physical Demands and Working Environment Training occurs in classrooms and in the field; requires strenuous physical effort and the ability to meet CA POST Academy standards. Selection Process Applicants must submit complete application packets online. Selected applicants will be invited to additional steps that may include the POST written exam, physical agility exam, and panel interview. POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test (PELLET‑B) scores from other agencies may be considered if the T‑Score is 45 or higher. Applicants must fully describe all qualifications; incomplete applications may be rejected.
