Experienced Attorney - Environmental and Commercial Real Estate

Job Overview A law firm seeks a highly experienced attorney specializing in environmental and commercial real estate to join their team in New York, NY. This role offers a hybrid work opportunity across all NY and CT offices. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in permitting and entitlements for complex development projects. Duties Lead and manage permitting and entitlement processes for major infrastructure and development projects. Interface with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals. Guide clients through environmental review frameworks and approval processes. Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and officials to advance project timelines. Develop strategies to enhance project viability and regulatory defensibility. Advise on compliance with various environmental regulatory regimes. Evaluate environmental constraints and support mitigation strategies. Represent clients in permitting, enforcement actions, and compliance matters. Optional: Engage in commercial real estate transactional work. Requirements 8+ years of U.S. environmental law experience with a focus on permitting and regulatory compliance. Juris Doctorate from an ABA‑accredited law school. Admission to the New York bar (or ability to waive in) required. Admission to Connecticut or Massachusetts (or ability to waive in) preferred. Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and project teams. Strong understanding of environmental risk and permitting strategies. Knowledge of NEPA, CEQA, CERCLA, RCRA, UIC, ESA, SEQRA, and relevant regulations. Experience with energy, infrastructure, industrial, or municipal projects. Ability to assess complex environmental reports and technical data. Familiarity with carbon‑related regulatory frameworks. Excellent communication skills and commitment to client service. Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast‑paced environment. Education Juris Doctorate from an ABA‑accredited law school. Certifications Admission to the New York bar (or ability to waive in). Skills Strong leadership and project management abilities. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Proficiency in environmental law and regulatory compliance.
