SU2 – 2nd Shift Assembler

This role focuses on assembling subcomponents and finished products, using hand tools, power tools, and overhead cranes in a fast-paced production environment. You will work closely with a team member to meet daily production goals while following detailed assembly drawings and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and organization on the manufacturing floor.

Responsibilities:

• Assemble subcomponents and finished products using basic product and process knowledge.
• Assemble and fit metal products using hand tools and power tools to ensure proper fit and function.
• Operate various hand tools and power tools to build units.
• Use an overhead crane to safely move and position larger units during assembly.
• Review and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics to determine required parts, quantities, and proper placement.
• Use a tape measure and other measuring tools to ensure accurate dimensions and alignment.
• Work in a fast-paced production and assembly environment to meet daily output and quality targets.
• Collaborate with one team member to fulfill product orders and complete builds each day.
• Lift and move components weighing 60 pounds or more to assemble and fit products together.
• Perform frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and arm extension for extended periods of time.
• Regularly walk, sit, and reach during the shift as part of normal assembly activities.
• Use hands frequently to operate hand tools, power tools, and related equipment safely and effectively.
• Follow 5S and organizational standards to keep the work area clean, orderly, and safe.
• Adhere to all safety procedures when using tools, equipment, and overhead cranes on the manufacturing floor.

Essential Skills:

• Experience assembling mechanical components or products in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for metal assembly and fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
• Ability to use a tape measure accurately to verify dimensions and part placement.
• Ability to operate an overhead crane to move and position larger units safely.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with blueprints and assembly instructions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more (40 pounds independently) on a regular basis.
• Ability to perform frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and reaching for extended periods.
• Comfort using hands continuously to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
• High school diploma or GED required by the time of permanent conversion (supported by a company-funded GED program).

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Prior experience building or assembling heat exchangers or similar industrial products.
• Familiarity with 5S principles and working in a structured, organized production environment.
• Experience working on a fast-paced production line or in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working closely with a small team to achieve shared production goals.
• Willingness to participate in and complete a structured training program.
• Interest in obtaining or completing a GED through an employer-supported program, if not already held.

Work Environment:

The role is based on a clean, organized, and large manufacturing floor where all sections are clearly labeled by materials and production stages. The facility is climate-controlled and strongly focused on 5S, resulting in a neat, tidy, and well-structured workspace. This position is for 2nd shift, typically Monday through Friday from approximately 2:30 PM to 11 PM, with the possibility of working later and occasional Saturday shifts (for example, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM) depending on production needs. The broader facility also operates a first shift from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with potential work until 4:30 PM as needed. You will regularly lift, carry, and position components, stand and walk for most of the shift, and use hand tools, power tools, and overhead cranes throughout the day. The dress code aligns with a typical manufacturing environment, requiring appropriate work attire and safety gear suitable for operating tools, equipment, and material handling devices.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $20.75 - $20.75/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
