Police Officer Recruit (Pre Service/Academy Graduate)

Overview Glendale Police Department (GPD) is seeking entry‑level Police Officer Recruit candidates who are committed to keeping Glendale a safe, community‑focused city. The position offers a competitive salary of up to $157,000 a year, including incentive and educational pay components. Essential Functions Ensures Department services are delivered with exceptional customer service and the highest ethical standards. Responds to calls for service regarding accidents, emergencies, crimes, threats, altercations, and requests for aid, providing information and assistance to the public. Emphasizes a Community‑Based Policing philosophy focused on community interaction and collaborative problem solving. Administers first aid to injured persons. Conducts interviews, interrogations and records statements from witnesses, suspects and victims, and prepares written reports on incidents and cases assigned. Apprehends suspects, including driving at high speeds, chasing on foot, physically subduing, and utilizing firearms under appropriate conditions. Enforces traffic laws, directs traffic, issues citations and warnings, and investigates accidents and accident scenes. Investigates matters involving juveniles, reports of child neglect and juvenile delinquency, and refers juveniles to the appropriate authorities. Serves subpoenas, serves warrants, testifies in court, marks and stores evidence, and confers with the City/District Attorney’s Office on case preparation. Assumes responsibility for ensuring duties are performed safely and efficiently. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires. Qualifications Minimum 21 years of age at the time of appointment. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Current enrollment in or graduation from a California POST Basic Police Academy within one year of application, with required documentation (enrollment letter or graduation certificate). Valid Class C California driver’s license. No felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Basic computer proficiency. Exceptional customer service skills and ability to manage conflict calmly. Physical fitness to meet the agency’s Physical Agility Test standards. Strong ethical conduct and commitment to the highest standards of integrity. Ability to work overtime and maintain a safe working environment. Residence Requirement Within four months of employment, all employees of GPD are required to reside within a ten‑mile radius of the Glendale Civic Center. Physical Requirements Meet the Physical Agility Test, which includes stair climb, obstacle climbs, dummy drag, beam walk, and stair descent with equipment.
