Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years in Step Down or Progressive Care Unit License: Active state RN license or compact license Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ventilator experience - Experience with EKG/dysrhythmia interpretation - EPIC experience Description: This position involves caring for patients with respiratory and cardiac conditions. The patient population consists primarily of those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure (CHF), pneumonia, flu, sepsis, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Nurses will work together in a team nursing model to manage patient care effectively. The goal is to divide the workload rather than the patients among nurses. Targeted patient ratios are typically 1:4, but they can extend to 1:5-6. Nurses will manage a variety of therapies including ventilators, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen. Nursing duties will include administering medications, managing IVs, and interpreting telemetry. Candidates must successfully complete an online competency assessment prior to starting the assignment. Weekend and holiday shifts are required. Nurses should be comfortable floating to other units as necessary. All candidates must have prior experience in a step-down or progressive care setting to be considered for this role.
