Construction Project Accountant

POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

Pirtle Construction is currently seeking a talented Construction Project Accountant to join our South Florida team, supporting active construction projects and working closely with project management and ownership. This role is responsible for managing project financials, processing pay applications and implementing cost controls from project initiation to closeout. The positions collaborate with the project team to manage and resolve billing matters throughout the construction of large-scale education, residential, municipal, and commercial projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Set up and maintain job budgets & cost codes Review and code supplier invoices related to a project Communicate with and assist subcontractors in submitting accurate monthly draws for billing Ensure subcontractor compliance is complete before approving monthly draws Authorize and complete the transfer of expenses in and out of project related accounts Review and approve change orders to ensure they are within budget for a project and recorded with accurate and complete documentation Prepare pay requisitions in CMiC to customers with accurate and complete billing backup per contract Prepare custom pay requisitions as required by customers Maintain communications between subcontractors, vendors, and customers, including revisions and requests for more detail/documentation, etc. Investigate project variances between billed vs spent amounts and submit variance reports to management monthly Report on profitability to management Report unpaid billings to customers over 30 days to management Create and submit government reports Compile information for internal and external auditors as required Close out project accounts upon project completion

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Prior experience in construction accounting or project accounting is desired Working knowledge of subcontractor pay apps, change orders, and cost tracking Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines Experience with construction accounting or project management software preferred Clear communication skills and ability to work with multiple project teams What We Offer The position offers a highly competitive wage and benefits package, with a salary commensurate with experience and level of knowledge.
