Responsibilities Collaborate with Principal and district leaders to ensure alignment on instructional vision and school priorities. Model and consistently communicate organizational standards for instruction, classroom culture, content knowledge, and continuous learning. Communicate regularly with Principal, district leaders, and deans to problem‑solve and prioritize issues affecting classroom or school culture, staff retention, and student outcomes. Review academic programs, initiatives, and interventions annually to guide improvement. Assure the proper functioning of the school through structures and support for staff and students, reporting to the Middle School Principal and Chief of Schools. Plan and facilitate community meetings in partnership with grade‑level leads to build and foster community within the middle school. Communicate regularly via public spaces emphasizing the importance of mission, virtues, and school priorities. Participate in middle‑school level leadership meetings to ensure alignment on cultural goals and norms. Review attendance, behavioral, and academic data to develop strategies and supports for students who are struggling in class or during unstructured times. Support grade‑level leads in the planning and execution of weekly grade‑level team meetings. Monitor and improve systems and routines for students such as arrival, dismissal, transitions, and lunch. Partner with Principal, district leaders, and Special Education to set action plans as needed. Ensure curriculum alignment with MA Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core Standards and is rigorous enough to fulfill school mission. Teach up to one section of Ethics. Support teachers with instructional pacing to ensure mastery of necessary standards. Guide teachers in the development and internalization of the GLEAM unit and lesson plans. Provide thought partnership to the Dean of Operations on effective testing plans aligned with district parameters and state guidelines. Ensure staff receive test administrator training in accordance with state and district requirements. Maintain safety and administration of school facilities, including safety drills and procedures. Support investigations of Code of Conduct items, including those requiring suspensions, and manage communications with students, faculty, and families. Model virtuous behavior during breakfast, lunch, transitions, and dismissal. Plan and attend key whole‑school and cross‑school events to engage students inside and outside the school. Supervise lunch periods, manage swipe and front‑desk duties, and cover classes when needed. Model and monitor the use of key communication structures such as Dean’s List, PowerSchool, and Smore. Conduct investigations of more serious disciplinary consequences, including suspension and expulsion, and advise school leaders accordingly. Analyze discipline data and communicate results to stakeholders. Participate in school academic, athletic, and co‑curricular activities to support all students beyond school hours. Lead MTSS team activities, partner with Health and Counseling teams, teachers, students, and families to design interventions and communicate progress. Ensure alignment of grade‑level leads with the MTSS framework and processes. Supervise attendance procedures and conduct family follow‑up for truancy. Cover classes for absent staff as outlined in the district’s SUBSTITUTE coverage policy. Observe MSLT members and provide actionable coaching feedback. Coach assistant principal and deans of curriculum and instruction weekly, documenting guidance per district protocol. Maintain a coaching caseload of up to three teachers, focusing on weekly observation, feedback, or data meetings. Develop and implement walkthrough protocols to monitor key culture routines and instructional strategies; share data with MSLT and teachers. Track progress toward organizational goals, adjust plans as needed, and communicate data insights that inspire staff and students. Prepare for and co‑facilitate periodic walkthroughs and data chats with MSLT and the Chief Academic Officer. Use TeachBoost or other data tracking systems to monitor impact of professional development via observation ratings and feedback. Monitor and report on annual school goals as defined by the Strategic Plan to key stakeholders. Attend the summer Leadership Academy and prepare for the forthcoming school year. Lead orientation sessions for new and returning middle‑school team members per district priorities. Lead school‑based professional learning sessions aligned with the district’s PD calendar. Train and support leaders on impactful professional learning design and provide ongoing feedback. Lead annual strategic planning with the school team. Collaborate with the Family Manager on initiatives, suggestions, and concerns from parents and families. Facilitate monthly Family Town Hall meetings. Attend frequent after‑school events. Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and state regulations, maintaining accurate records and required reports. Respond to PRS complaints filed through DESE. Create a professional environment ensuring respectful interactions with school community. Monitor staff attendance and schedule meetings per school policy. Write performance improvement plans for staff not meeting expectations. Investigate staff misconduct in consultation with HR, issue outcomes, and mediate conflicts. Follow annual performance management cycle for direct reports and ensure other managers comply. Model leadership routines such as observation/feedback coaching, data meetings, and PD facilitation. Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance leadership skills. Identify external professional development opportunities with Chief Schools Officer or principals as needed. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; Master’s preferred. Certification: Valid Massachusetts teaching license in the appropriate subject area. Testing: Passing score on the Communications & Literacy MTEL and MTEL in content area(s) taught within first year of employment. SEI Endorsement: For core academic and special education teachers, endorsement within first year. Experience: 3–5 years teaching with a commitment to serve all students and demonstrate strong results. Communication: Excellent written communication, strong organizational and time‑management skills. Technology: Proficient in Office Suite, Google Suite, and relevant educational programs.
