Human Resources Generalist, Senior

$94.8k - $121.4k

LCG

Job title: Senior Human Resources Generalist

Location: Rockville, MD

Onsite: 3 days minimum onsite ( may increase as business needs change)

Sponsorship: No sponsorship assistance is available for this position.

Job Overview: LCG is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist with a strong focus on benefits administration, in-house leave management, HR operations, and data accuracy.

This is an individual-contributor role responsible for managing critical HR programs across the employee lifecycle, including benefits, leaves of absence, onboarding, employee changes, compliance reporting, employee engagement, and HRIS administration.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-focused, and technically capable. This role requires someone who is comfortable working in ADP Workforce Now or a similar HRIS/payroll platform, building formula-driven Excel reconciliations, reviewing payroll and benefits data, identifying exceptions, and resolving discrepancies efficiently.

The successful candidate will also be comfortable using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms as practical working tools to support audit logic, formula troubleshooting, data reconciliation, reporting, documentation, and process improvement.

This position requires strong working knowledge of benefits and leave regulations, including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, Section 125 qualifying life events, and applicable federal and state employment laws.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions involving medical, dental, vision, retirement, voluntary benefits, and other company-sponsored programs.
  • Administer benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, status changes, terminations, COBRA, and employee support.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, third-party administrators, and benefit vendors to resolve issues and support plan administration.
  • Lead annual open enrollment planning and execution, including timelines, employee communications, education sessions, system setup, and benefit elections.
  • Maintain accurate benefit data within the HRIS and benefit administration platforms.
  • Monitor eligibility files, EDI integrations, enrollment feeds, and system errors.
  • Reconcile carrier invoices, payroll deductions, and enrollment files at the employee-record level.
  • Investigate benefit and payroll variances using formula-driven Excel analysis and exception reporting.
  • Analyze benefit utilization, enrollment trends, and related HR data to identify process improvements and support recommendations.
  • Support annual benefit renewals and provide data and analysis to HR leadership.

401(k) Administration and Audit Support

  • Prepare and validate employee census data for annual 401(k) plan audits and nondiscrimination testing.
  • Calculate and reconcile employee contributions, employer matching contributions, eligibility dates, and plan participation data.
  • Support ADP/ACP, top-heavy, eligibility, and related compliance testing.
  • Reconcile payroll, HRIS, and recordkeeper files and resolve discrepancies before final submission.
  • Maintain organized audit documentation and support the broader audit process through completion.
  • Partner with payroll, Finance, recordkeepers, and external auditors as needed.

Leave of Absence Administration

  • Administer company leave programs in-house, including:

    • FMLA
    • ADA accommodations
    • Parental leave
    • Military leave
    • Jury duty
    • State-specific leave programs
    • Other applicable federal, state, and company leave programs

  • Manage the full leave lifecycle from the initial request through return to work.
  • Provide required notices, documentation, employee communications, and compliance tracking.
  • Coordinate payroll deductions, benefit continuation, paid time off, and return-to-work requirements.
  • Communicate with employees and managers regarding leave status, responsibilities, and next steps.
  • Maintain confidential leave and medical records in compliance with HIPAA and privacy requirements.
  • Coordinate workplace accommodations and return-to-work activities in partnership with HR leadership and management.

HR Operations and Employee Lifecycle Support

  • Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding activities.
  • Support new hire orientation, required documentation, system access, policy acknowledgements, and employee communications.
  • Help create a positive employee experience from onboarding through ongoing employment and departure.
  • Process employee lifecycle changes, including:
    • Promotions
    • Transfers
    • Compensation changes
    • Status changes
    • Department or manager changes
    • Terminations

  • Maintain accurate employee records within ADP Workforce Now or a comparable HRIS.
  • Update HR policies, procedures, forms, and the employee handbook.
  • Coordinate employee communications and acknowledgements related to policy changes.
  • Provide guidance to employees and managers regarding HR policies, benefits, leave, and general workplace matters.
  • Generate routine reports covering benefits, leave, payroll, and employee data.
  • Conduct regular audits of employee records, HRIS data, and payroll output.
  • Perform payroll quality-control reviews each cycle by comparing payroll registers, HRIS data, benefits eligibility files, and employee change records.
  • Build lookup- and formula-driven comparisons to identify exceptions rather than relying solely on manual spot checks.

Employee Engagement and Employee Relations Support

  • Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, communications, and culture-building activities.
  • Assist with talent management and employee development initiatives.
  • Analyze engagement, retention, and turnover data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support HR leadership with employee relations matters, workplace investigations, corrective actions, and offboarding activities.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and consistency when handling sensitive employee matters.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Assist with required reporting, including:
    • EEO-1
    • VETS-4212
    • Affirmative Action Plans
    • Other government and workforce compliance reports

  • Support immigration, visa, assignee, and international transfer processes.
  • Coordinate workplace health and safety initiatives, including support for the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of employee, medical, payroll, and benefit information.
  • Help ensure compliance with HIPAA, privacy requirements, benefit plan rules, and company policies.
  • Support multi-state employment compliance, particularly in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Reporting, Analytics, and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate reports, trackers, and reference files supporting benefits, leave, onboarding, payroll, and compliance.
  • Use Excel and HR data systems to identify discrepancies, trends, and operational risks.
  • Support HRIS enhancements, benefits-platform improvements, EDI troubleshooting, reporting automation, and process improvements.
  • Develop exception-based reporting and formula-driven reconciliation tools.
  • Use AI tools to assist with:
    • Audit logic
    • Formula troubleshooting
    • Reconciliation approaches
    • HR reporting
    • Process documentation
    • Drafting and refining employee communications

  • Participate in cross-functional HR projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Recommend practical improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and employee service.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

  • Informally guide or train newer HR team members on benefits, leave, and HR administrative processes.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, reference guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support knowledge transfer and cross-training within the HR team.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of Human Resources experience with significant responsibility for benefits and leave administration.

  • Experience coordinating annual open enrollment and benefit renewals.
