Position Overview

SkyBridge Aviation is seeking a motivated mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our aircraft integration team. Using mechanical and structural engineering expertise, the candidate will design and develop the integration of avionics and weapons systems into multiple vehicle platforms for customers including US DoD, foreign military, and/or commercial entities. A successful candidate may also be the technical lead for projects during both the design and test phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop CAD technical data packages to include 3D models, 2D drawings using CAD software.
\n
• Develop design solutions to complex mechanical issues in the field of rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft with considerations for weight, thermal, vibration, corrosion and airworthiness.
\n
• Perform classical and Finite Element Analysis.
\n
• Perform and write specifications, engineering analysis and reports as required to obtain airworthiness certification.
\n
• Coordinate with manufacturing engineering to identify manufacturing efficiencies early in the design cycle.
\n
• Support manufacturing engineering during the manufacturing phase.
\n
• Develop and present formal and informal design reviews.
\n
• Effectively communicate with Airworthiness Authorities.
\n
• Develop installation instructions.
\n
• Provide engineering support during prototype, validation and verification of aircraft modifications.
\n
• Review completed installations to ensure conformance to design.
\n
• Support component level qualification testing.
\n
• Performs other duties as assigned.
\n
• May report to an executive or a manager

Qualifications

\n
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is preferred
\n
• 8+ years of relevant experience required + advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principals
\n
• Experience in aircraft structures design to include sheet metal, machined and composite parts and assemblies.
\n
• Understanding of aircraft structures, load paths and designing for crash loads.
\n
• Working knowledge of material selections using the Metallic Material Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS) Handbook (formally MIL-HDBK-5) and Composite Materials Handbook (MIL-HDBK-17).
\n
• Working knowledge and understanding of military and commercial aerospace practices, processes, specifications and standards.
\n
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-31000, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards and associated drawing and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
\n
• Skilled in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA and/or Creo CAD software; with a high degree of experience in SolidWorks preferred.
\n
• Ability to write and review airworthiness documents, plans and test procedures.
\n
• General understanding of manufacturability of sheet metal, machined and composite parts and assemblies.
\n
• Knowledge of classical and Finite Element Analysis Methods.
\n
• Working knowledge of aircraft corrosion prevention methods, techniques and treatments.
\n
• Working knowledgeable of DoD aircraft technical manuals.
\n
• Knowledgeable of DoD and/or FAA airworthiness certification processes and requirements.
\n
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-tasking customer service-oriented environment with a high degree of efficient and effective performance.
\n
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
\n

• Ground, armored, or tactical vehicle mission-system integration experience.
\n
• Communications-rack development for vehicle, vessel, aerospace, or other defense platforms.
\n
• Blind-mate connector/interface and slide-out or modular-bay experience.
\n
• EMP/HEMP-protected equipment/enclosure experience and familiarity with MIL-STD-188-125 concepts.
\n
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 considerations.
\n
• Thermal management and cooling of densely packaged electronics.
\n
• SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD experience; equivalent mechanical CAD tools may also be relevant.
\n
• Experience with modular/open architectures or chassis ecosystems such as CMOSS/SOSA, VITA/OpenVPX, where applicable.
\n
• Experience supporting a new integration lab, prototype environment, or engineering process.
