Senior Benefits Analyst - 72002704This is an on-site position located in Tallahassee, FL. Internal Agency OnlyPosition Overview and Responsibilities:Trains and directs professional employees in all aspects of plan membership, reporting, benefit payroll or benefit determination and calculation. Trains employees to equip them to accurately analyze members' employment history, balance retirement accounts, prepare statements of required contributions, compute estimates of retirement benefits, counsel members on all aspects of retirement and calculate final retirement benefit amount. Provides feedback to section administrator on progress of trainees. Supports and assists the section administrator in assigning and monitoring the work flow in the section, production reports, etc. Effectively assumes responsibilities of the section administrator during the administrator's absence by approving leave, monitoring section activities in personnel. May participate in employee selection modules, performance reviews and make recommendations to supervisor about work deficiencies, problem areas, and corrective action. Analyzes and approves the audit, balancing and subsequent calculations of member accounts by professional employees for accuracy. Ensures that proper service credit has been given under each retirement system and plan, verifies members' eligibility to claim retirement credit for additional types of service, the required contributions and interest have been accurately calculated and paid as required and that the proper documentation for all actions taken and determinations made are contained in the file. Also verifies all audits of transfer of moneys between and within member accounts due to reporting and other errors in the account. Composes complex correspondence, memoranda, etc. to members and agencies. Develops and writes procedures, and updates procedures for the approval of the section administrator. Process and verify DROP void accounts. Create, monitor, and test SIRS for revisions in IRIS. Attend bureau staff meetings and conduct section staff meetings in the absence of the administrator. Performs related duties as required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication and basic arithmetic. Ability to review data for accuracy; identify errors and take corrective action; collect, evaluate, analyze and verify data relating to retirement benefits; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to retirement benefits; train others; organize data into logical format; utilize problem solving techniques; work independently; perform basic arithmetical calculations; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to operate a personal computer with proficiency in Word, or comparable processes. Accountability, Communication, Empowerment, Flexibility, Integrity, Respect, Teamwork.Minimum Qualifications:Five years of professional experience in the area of insurance, retirement or social security, administration, call center, customer service, fiscal work, statistics, or personnel.
