Patient Accounts Representative - Government Payers

Job Summary Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. Perform third‑party billing functions within the Medicare team of the hospital business office. Responsible for all aspects of hospital and professional claim review and resolution. Qualifications & Skills High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of third‑party hospital/physician billing experience. Excellent communication skills. Knowledge of billing/accounts receivable data processing procedures and systems for daily data entry. Computer literacy in Cerner, SSI systems, and third‑party web sites. Ability to multi‑task and work well in a team environment. Medicare billing experience preferred. Consistently treats patients, colleagues, and visitors with dignity and respect, respecting differences in age groups, backgrounds, characteristics, and cultures. Essential Responsibilities Work assigned queues daily/weekly to resolve claim denials in Cerner, ensuring correct reimbursement and avoiding timely‑filing issues. Examine incoming correspondence and review rejections to determine if follow‑up is needed. Identify when other departments must be contacted for correct charge/coding information. Process third‑party refunds and research misapplied monies posted to accounts incorrectly. Resolve problems with limited supervision while focusing on quality improvements. Monitor follow‑up reports and identify repeat claim errors by payer. Take appropriate action on delinquent accounts and report ongoing problems to the Patient Accounts Supervisor. Under direct supervision of the Patient Accounts Supervisor and within established hospital and departmental policies, perform billing functions to bring accounts to resolution in a reasonable timeframe. Use all available resources—including guidebooks and payer websites—to resolve claim issues before contacting higher management. Physical Demands Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and performing computer work. Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $19.85 - $30.05 per hour.
