University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department: Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology Job Title: Open Rank: Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology Position #00828892: – Requisition #:35560 Job Summary The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, is seeking a full‑time pediatric cardiac team attending at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals employ nationally‑recognized physicians who deliver exemplary anesthetic care and comprehensive perioperative services. Primary Clinical Site Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), a 553‑bed tertiary care children's hospital located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. CHCO is a level IV NICU and the only level 1 pediatric trauma center in Colorado. With 4 hospitals, a 16‑site care network, and more than 500 outreach clinics in over 29 cities, the CHCO network serves children throughout Colorado and surrounding regions. The Section is a multidisciplinary team of highly trained pediatric anesthesia experts performing more than 27,000 anesthesia procedures annually, specializing in the unique needs of children undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures. Key Responsibilities Administer anesthesia independently or supervise residents, CRNAs, and CAAs. Prepare the patient for anesthesia, write pre‑ and post‑anesthesia orders, confirm readiness before induction, manage the anesthetic period, and follow the patient through the post‑anesthesia period as appropriate. Perform services in operating rooms, labor & delivery, radiology, and outpatient procedure centers. Participate in the cardiac anesthesia call team, covering weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Contribute to teaching, including lectures, preceptorship, and one‑on‑one instruction as a faculty member of the School of Medicine. Engage in clinical or laboratory research to advance knowledge in the specialty. Work Location Onsite – Aurora, Colorado. Either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists (board eligible), a Diplomate of the Board, or holding foreign training equivalent to the ABAs diploma. American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Certified, ABA Board‑eligible, or equivalent foreign certification. Fellowship‑trained in Pediatric Anesthesiology. Fellowship‑trained in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology (one year). Board certification in pediatric anesthesiology desirable within two years of employment. Experience teaching anesthesiology. Currently working as a dedicated pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong working and theoretical knowledge of anesthesiology and peri‑operative medicine. Strong working and theoretical knowledge of congenital cardiac anesthesiology. Strong work ethic and excellent communication skills. Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team at the Heart Institute, Children's Hospital Colorado.
