About the Position

Job Title: ICU RN Traveler Profession: RN Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years, with at least 1 year in an ICU setting License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale Must-Have: - 36 months RN experience, with at least one year in an ICU. - One previous successful travel nursing assignment, preferably in a facility that used similar documentation systems. - Ability to care for up to 1-3 ICU patients and comfort in managing patients on ventilators. - Proficient in reading telemetry strips. Description: Traveler shall be scheduled in accordance with facility policy. Travelers are expected to work every other weekend and holidays in rotation with hospital employees. The unit has a total of 28 mixed ICU beds. Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, 1:3/4, holding inpatient PCU/med surg admissions. Unit staffing is primarily RNs. The unit utilizes mobile phones for each care team member and mobile computer workstations on wheels. Documentation system is Meditech. Schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week, including every other weekend. Floating policy states that travelers are the first to float, possibly to the emergency department or PCU. Bedside shift report is the method of patient handoff. Advanced skills required include CRRT, advanced hemodynamics, and phlebotomy. Nurses administer respiratory treatments (inhalers and nebulizers) outside of the ICU. Common procedures performed include post-op day 0 CABG, impellas, balloon pumps, Swan Ganz, and advanced hemodynamics. Neuro procedures include managing aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, experience with EVDs and bolts (Codman), and Arctic Sun experience with induced hypothermia. A BSN and advanced certifications are preferred. Travelers with interest in becoming skilled Neuro ICU or Cardiovascular ICU nurses will receive training. Opportunities to train for managing patients with head and neck flap procedures are also available.
