About the Position: This position is located in Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of Cook Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common cooking tasks, food preparation techniques, and provide supervision to employees. Ability to plan and organize work assignments for other employees and explain work requirements and procedures. In addition, plan the coordination, preparation, and cooking process to produce an entire meal. Works under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Performs work requiring continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing, or over 50 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen areas, which are well lighted, but are often hot and noisy. Cooks are exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped, or where food has been spilled.
