Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. In the role of care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers, including nurses and non-nurses, through delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this position will be required to understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services and make informed decisions based on sound judgment when situations arise.

Essential Functions

• Performs assessments and data collection, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
• Implements care consistently by adhering to predetermined procedures, policies, and care plans.
• Identifies patient and significant other learning needs and readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy.
• Documents in the patient's chart, ensuring compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and family rights, respecting all classifications protected by law.
• Effectively delegates patient care activities and supervises assigned coworkers.
• Utilizes sound critical thinking to prioritize and organize patient care activities.
• Adheres to appropriate lines of authority.
• May function as a Charge Nurse, including delegating patient assignments and coordinating staff coverage.
• Maintains professional growth through seminars, workshops, and affiliations to stay informed of the latest trends in nursing.
• Ensures adherence to safety requirements, including infection control and equipment usage.
• Complies with organization policies and procedures as well as applicable labor agreements.
• Engages courteously and efficiently with team members and support groups according to the organization's values.
• Conducts oneself in a professional manner and maintains personal appearance standards.
• Handles additional responsibilities as required to meet organizational standards.

Work Environment

This position reports to the Nursing Department Director, House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and other designated supervisory staff on duty. The RN works closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care outcomes.

Education & Experience

• Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• License: Current RN licensure in Washington State.
• Certification: Healthcare Provider (HCP) level of Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Experience: Preferred experience as an acute care registered nurse, with a minimum of one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, and lifting, as well as reaching, bending, and pushing.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. and perform tasks over long periods.
• Physical strength to perform CPR and assist with patient mobility as needed.
• Keen mental faculties to perform assessments and make decisions in acute care situations.
• Good reading eyesight and visual acuity for accurate patient assessments.
• Emotional stability to handle the high stress of a demanding care environment.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Family Birthing Unit Requirements

• AAP NRP Advanced certification required within orientation period, renewed every 2 years.
• ACLS certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
