Clinical Counselor - Safe Harbor Programs

Provide assessment and short-term, solution-focused non-medical counseling services to Navy Wounded Warrior, Navy Gold Star, and Fisher House individuals Deliver virtual individual, couples, family, and group counseling Maintain a virtual caseload dedicated to NWW, NGS, and Fisher House populations Conduct intake, screening, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, referral, and follow-up Refer clients requiring longer-term or medical/psychiatric intervention to appropriate behavioral health services Provide immediate crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and follow-up for suicidal or homicidal risk Use the Columbia Suicide Severity Risk Scale and Veterans Affairs Safety Plan Report suspected child abuse and domestic abuse/violence to appropriate authorities and Family Advocacy representatives Coordinate specialized assessment and intervention services for children and families Provide warm handoffs for restricted domestic abuse and sexual assault reports Provide information about Navy non-medical counseling programs Provide temporary surge support across additional Navy Regions when needed Participate in quarterly quality assurance procedures Maintain clinical documentation in the FFSMIS Clinical Counseling Record System and account for services in the scheduling module Maintain a primary virtual counseling schedule while flexing schedules and deploying for short-notice on-site assignments Travel worldwide, including to austere or disaster-area locations, for crisis, disaster response, and operational support Requirements Master's degree in counseling accredited by CACREP, or master's degree in social work accredited by CSWE, or master's degree in marriage and family therapy accredited by COAMFTE, or doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology plus a one-year APA-accredited clinical internship Current, valid, and unrestricted clinical license or certification authorizing independent clinical practice (LCSW, LMFT, LCP, LPC, LCPC, or LMHC) Maintain current clinical credentials and privileges throughout the FFSP assignment Minimum of two years of full-time, post-master's supervised clinical experience Current clinical competence demonstrated through periodic direct-service clinical experience during the two years preceding hire Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds Proficiency in oral and written communication Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and office software Dedicated secure, private professional workspace suitable for telehealth Located within a reasonable commuting distance of a military installation Ability to work core business hours of the assigned area of responsibility and flex hours during surge or crisis Willingness and availability to travel on short notice, sometimes within 24–48 hours Valid U.S. passport, driver's license, and reliable transportation Required government health/medical clearances and vaccinations as needed per CDC guidelines U.S. Citizenship for positions requiring access to U.S. Government facilities and systems Eligibility for Secret security clearance, including background investigation and credit check Knowledge of relevant clinical documentation requirements and military/community referral resources Preferred experience with wounded warriors, medically impacted families, military populations, complex medical systems, catastrophic injury, combat-related medical retirement, short-term counseling, virtual environments, and telehealth Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in providing non-medical counseling services, including crisis intervention and treatment planning, while maintaining clinical documentation and adhering to military and community referral resources.
