Lab Technician II/III

Essential Job Functions Competency to work in Water Analysis (WA), General Analysis (GA), or Gas Chromatography (GC) laboratories. Conduct analysis of samples from multiple processes and products in accordance with standard procedures, work instructions, and methods. Monitor product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications. Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers as requested. Abide by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participate in safety training; demonstrate commitment to EHSS principles and values; champion safety. Document and notify lab staff of any LIMS issue. Ensure that all shift changeover communications have been completed. Understands and performs all work following OSHA regulations and company policies and procedures. Ensure any employee entering the laboratory complies with all Lotte Chemical safety requirements. Participate in and complete all assigned training programs. Respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies following safety guidelines and procedures; use equipment, chemicals and procedures appropriate to the situation. Perform other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position. Monitor inventory in applicable lab and document as needed to order supplies. Issue work and entry permits for general, hazardous; provide lock‑out, tag‑out documentation. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position. Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking); ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to communicate clearly to all levels in the organization. Presenter for others on equipment and methods; ensure that test results are documented in LIMS, organized and correctly filed, and complete COAs. Review methods as requested; assist in setting up methods. Conduct intermediate troubleshooting evaluation of instrumentation, document issues in conjunction with Lab Tech III and lab staff (as needed). Conduct any assigned assessments for safety and environmental; e.g. safety showers, waste SAA, etc. Enter maintenance work requests for repairs such as building related issues, life station alarms, etc. Conduct advanced troubleshooting evaluation of instrumentation, document issues, and perform repairs upon staff approval. Understand and conduct all applicable calibrations and SPC as required at intermediate and advanced levels. Order GC gases as needed. Initially respond to calls from assigned lab technicians reporting sick; schedule coverage for shift utilizing Work Schedule and Overtime Tracking adhering to Lotte Chemical Overtime Policy (unscheduled coverage). Monitor schedule for Fatigue Risk Management; report findings to Quality Manager. Experience & Key Skills Two to five years of laboratory experience in a petrochemical plant or analytical environment. Knowledge of and experience with laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, gas chromatography (GC) and general analysis equipment and methods. Ability and experience in working with batch and continuous operations in laboratory environment. Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments. Education Requirement High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school degree for the lab or bachelor’s degree in a science area such as chemistry preferred. The employee is required to stand (possibly for long periods of time), use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
