Southwind Construction Services LLC, a Quivera Enterprises company, is seeking an experienced Carpenter. The Carpenter is a skilled construction trades professional responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, finishing, and maintaining a variety of structures, fixtures, and building components in support of commercial, industrial, and federal construction projects. This position performs layout, measurement, cutting, fabrication, assembly, installation, and finishing activities using a variety of construction materials, hand tools, power tools, and equipment. Work assignments may include concrete formwork, framing and sheathing, architectural millwork, doors and hardware, interior and exterior finishes, thermal and moisture protection, roofing, and construction specialties. In addition to skilled carpentry responsibilities, this position may serve in a Deputy Superintendent capacity , assisting the Project Superintendent with daily field operations, subcontractor coordination, work sequencing, safety, quality, schedule execution, documentation, and communication. The Carpenter works independently and as part of the construction team while maintaining high standards for safety, workmanship, productivity, and quality. - Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and dismantle formwork for concrete foundations, slabs-on-grade, columns, beams, elevated concrete decks, and other concrete structures.
- Layout and assemble framed walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, roofs, and other structural components using wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, composites, and other construction materials.
- Fit and install windows, window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim, and related components.
- Construct, install, and repair architectural millwork and cabinetry, including cabinets, shelving, countertops, soffits, siding, casework, and interior and exterior trim.
- Layout, install, and repair gypsum board walls and ceilings, suspended ceilings, flooring, ceramic tile, drywall finishes, painting, and related architectural finishes.
- Install construction specialties, including toilet partitions, toilet accessories, interior and exterior signage, lockers, corner guards, and related components.
- Install thermal and moisture protection systems, including building insulation, caulking, sealants, damp proofing, waterproofing, and shingle roofing.
- Install metal panel siding, roofing, trim, gutters, downspouts, and associated components.
- Shape, cut, drill, fasten, and assemble materials to specified measurements using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Perform demolition, repair, alteration, and renovation activities as required by project scope.
- Assist the Project Superintendent with the coordination and oversight of daily construction activities from mobilization through project closeout.
- Support coordination of company personnel, subcontractors, vendors, materials, equipment, and other resources required to execute field activities.
- Assist with developing and communicating daily and short-term work plans, including sequencing activities to maintain the project schedule.
- Review upcoming work with subcontractors and field personnel to identify manpower, material, equipment, access, safety, and coordination requirements.
- Assist with maintaining and communicating short-term and three-week look-ahead schedules.
- Monitor daily field progress and communicate potential schedule impacts, delays, conflicts, or resource constraints to the Project Superintendent.
- Coordinate field activities among subcontractors and trades to minimize conflicts and maintain efficient workflow.
- Assist with conducting subcontractor coordination meetings, pre-installation meetings, safety meetings, and daily field briefings.
- Monitor subcontractor activities for compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, approved submittals, schedules, and project requirements.
- Assist with verifying that required materials, equipment, drawings, submittals, and information are available before scheduled work begins.
- Assist the Superintendent with resolving field conflicts, constructability issues, sequencing challenges, and coordination concerns.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Quality Control, Safety, subcontractors, and other project personnel to support successful project execution.
- Provide field leadership and direction when the Project Superintendent is temporarily unavailable, when authorized by project leadership.
- Assist the Superintendent and site safety personnel with enforcing company, customer, OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Monitor work areas for unsafe conditions, practices, or behaviors and immediately communicate concerns to the appropriate supervisor or safety representative.
- Assist with ensuring subcontractors and employees utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) reviews, and pre-task planning.
- Assist with verifying that workers are appropriately trained and qualified for assigned activities and equipment.
- Promote a strong safety culture by modeling safe work practices and reinforcing project safety expectations.
- Support maintenance of clean, organized, and safe project work areas.
- Assist the Superintendent and Quality Control Manager with monitoring construction activities for compliance with drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and quality requirements.
- Review work in place to identify deficiencies or incomplete items before formal inspections.
- Assist with preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality control activities when required.
- Coordinate correction of deficiencies, punch-list items, and incomplete work with responsible trades.
- Assist with coordinating inspections and ensuring work areas are prepared for Government, customer, or third-party inspection.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch-list completion, final inspections, as-built documentation, and turnover requirements.
- Help ensure completed work meets Southwind's workmanship and quality expectations.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of daily construction reports documenting manpower, subcontractors, equipment, work activities, progress, weather, delays, safety events, and significant project conditions.
- Document field conditions and progress through photographs, notes, logs, and other project records.
- Assist with tracking Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, field changes, deficiencies, punch-list items, and action items.
- Communicate changed conditions, potential scope impacts, or field discrepancies to the Superintendent and Project Manager.
- Assist with maintaining current drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and other field documentation.
- Support preparation and maintenance of redline and as-built drawings.
- Maintain accurate records necessary to support project management, quality control, safety, and contract requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, sketches, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Perform construction layout using measuring tapes, levels, plumb bobs, laser levels, and other layout instruments.
- Measure and calculate dimensions, elevations, angles, quantities, and material requirements.
- Inspect wood and other construction materials to evaluate type, quality, condition, and suitability for intended use.
- Assist supervisors with structural layout, planning, sequencing, and installation activities.
- Verify completed work for proper alignment, elevation, dimensions, fit, finish, and compliance with project requirements.
- Troubleshoot field conditions and construction issues in coordination with supervisors and the project team.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and other equipment required to perform carpentry activities.
- Erect, access, and work from ladders and scaffolding as required to complete assigned work.
- Inspect tools and equipment before use and immediately report unsafe or defective equipment.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, organized, safe, and secure condition.
- Properly store and protect construction materials to prevent damage and unnecessary waste.
- Assist with material handling, staging, loading, unloading, and inventory activities as required.
- Assist with coordinating material deliveries, storage locations, and staging requirements to support scheduled field activities.
- Work collaboratively with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, Quality Control Manager, Site Safety and Health Officer, subcontractors, vendors, and craft personnel.
- Train and mentor incoming and less-experienced craft personnel in applicable carpentry techniques, job functions, and safe work practices.
- Provide field guidance to employees and subcontractors within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
- Receive and follow direction from project leadership while effectively communicating expectations to field personnel.
- Maintain professional working relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, Government representatives, inspectors, and other third parties.
- Support project schedules and coordinate activities with other trades to minimize conflicts and delays.
- Represent Southwind professionally during customer interactions and field coordination activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of project requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of carpentry practices, methods, materials, tools, and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, sketches, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Ability to perform construction layout using measuring tapes, levels, plumb bobs, laser levels, and other layout instruments.
- Ability to accurately measure, calculate, cut, fabricate, and assemble construction materials.
- Ability to inspect and assess the type, strength, condition, and quality of wood and other construction materials.
- Ability to safely operate applicable hand tools, power tools, machines, and construction equipment.
- Strong understanding of construction jobsite practices and the construction industry.
- Working knowledge of applicable jobsite safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to understand construction sequencing and coordinate work among multiple trades.
- Ability to monitor field activities and identify potential safety, quality, schedule, or constructability concerns.
- Ability to provide direction and guidance to craft personnel while maintaining positive working relationships.
- Good mathematical and spatial reasoning skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to troubleshoot field conditions and resolve routine construction issues.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a construction team.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

- Ability to perform work within established schedules and time constraints.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of four (4) years of professional carpentry or related construction experience; OR
- Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship, trade school, or vocational training program in lieu of the education requirement.
- Experience supporting federal government, military, industrial, or commercial construction projects preferred.
- Previous experience as a Lead Carpenter, Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, or similar field leadership role preferred.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, trades, construction schedules, and daily field operations.
- Experience with federal construction quality control and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 requirements preferred.
- Experience performing multiple carpentry disciplines, including concrete formwork, framing, millwork, doors and hardware, finishes, and specialties.
- Experience with construction layout instruments, hand and power tools, shop equipment, and applicable construction equipment.
